neh.. if they took the effort to solder the cpu.. of course.. the gpu aswell.. lol

Well it's sometime a form factor, whether we can upgrade it or not. Although i do have to agree quite a number that bought upgradable cpu/gpu doesn't do any upgrades but the thought that they can do so will put them at ease. Human it's all about satisfaction~.. lol
*
whatever it is, that's how asus plays the game with their rog gaming laptops. time will tell. for consumers, it's much easier to decide biggrin.gif

rumors said g46vr is already on the way (found at some European websites). found some screenshots too (but i'm not sure if they are real or just seo pranks). whether it's legit or not, not sure.

1. cpu is still 3630qm;
2. gpu changed to 760m.

usually asus support website will give us clues whether the said models are to be released in near future. for instance, the existence of g750 was denied but apparently it's on the way previously; when you can find the support page of that model, it's very likely the news is legit.

rumors also said intel is pushing partners to release devices with BGA packages :/ but again, it's up to the manufacturers. to me putting a BGA package in a gaming laptop is still not a good decision.

finally, rumors said there is no g55 anymore.

note that the above are all rumors. don't believe anything until they're proven to be true.

edit: .. and it's not only us. many complained about soldered cpu's.

I dun understand what you mean by getting external dongle. Mind to explain more?

Do u know where to get killer bigfoot wireless-n wifi card at malaysia?
*
uh? there are external usb dongles for wifi that can be found in garage sales, lelong.com.my, etc. the common ones are 150mbps and 300mbps.

afaik, killer cards are usually for oem only. in malaysia i think it's like no sellers carrying them. i found it at ebay, but they're not worth it imo.

*
i'm using intel 6235. to me both atheros and intel work for me.

You mention that 6235 have driver issue or bio wifi white listing issue, hmm....  hmm.gif

anyway what window you r using?
*
you are correct. after looking around for clues and hints, i found out many are still having problems with 6235 and 6300. many pointed the root cause to be the drivers (but i suspect it might be other factors involved). that's why i do not recommend this to you.

fyi the issue is the connectivity not being stable (fluctuates randomly). some run at very low speed.

yeah i am still using 6235 for a number of reasons:
1. to me i don't feel any degradation of wifi access (not like others; many reported that it's below 40mbps; it's not in my case);
2. i am having 150mbps to 270mbps connection speeds. it's fine for me even if it doesn't reach the full 300mbps.

running 8.

edit: .ac wifi adapters have been released, like in certain models of g75vx. new aw 17 is using .ac adapter, too. maybe you can search for broadcom 4352, 4360 too.

Thank for the tips, any idea on 1102? what is its specs?

Any review on the wifi adapter? Is that build-in or what? Available  in Malaysia market?
*
er.. 1102, no idea sorry. i guess you can use google to find that out smile.gif

about the availability, usually it's not available in Malaysia. (well, at least i am not aware of their presence. maybe you can wait for other users who know more on where to get them locally)

Yeah i also see on european website.. now i'm wondering why is it on european website.. asus is now based on europe? lol.. why do they get the info first? and it seems that some web even have prices around 12XX euro? lol but no stock available

of course. it's a buying factor.. even though i probably wouldn't upgrade now (but now i'm thinking if i can upgrade my GPU) i would surely go for it.. since the 660M seems like a beast with the fangs kena cabut.. not so scary anymore.. lol

*
i think they are at war in the european markets with competitors. previously european sites got the vx and g46 first iirc. i remembered when i saw the g55/g75 for the first time, it's at russian sites too (beside europe only). at that time, there was actually one g75 model with 3720qm cpu (back then the max ram supported was declared at 16gb biggrin.gif)

incredible.. and wow.. pcie based? where should i plug that in my g55? lol..

Ic, must be a big market there if they release almost everything there first. Since i couldn't understand their language i'm still wondering how big is the market there. Is it worth it to release there first?
*
for laptops, only mac can enjoy that first (well.. for now. some asus desktop boards also can use that)

no idea about market share in Europe lol; but i guess it's important to asus to maintain presence there.

asus has a new benchmarking tool called ROG RealBench (http://rog.asus.com/241042013/overclocking/rog-realbench-free-app-download-now/). you can try it out and compare it here smile.gif

this is mine; all stock configurations bo clock one (cpu/gpu); using ram disk:

looks cool, does it work better than other benchmark tool?
Not really sure how to configure ram disk, how big is ur ram?
*
hehe benchmarking just allows us to do comparisons to reference scores. there is nothing fancy about it. whether it's better or not, that depends on what you're looking for. to me, for realbench, it's based on the predefined workloads, rather than synthetic tests; i just think it makes more sense.

i have 32gb of ram. 16gb of it is ram disk. my favorite is softperfect ramdisk.

Anyone experiencing artifacting on G53SX? When my GPU heats up to around 70 degrees (under gaming), the blacks turn to a flickering red, and whites turn to flickering teal. So take a dark, horror game for example, the entire screen will be red instead of black / dark colours sleep.gif

I've tried updating, downgrading & also using the ASUS official GeForce drivers to no avail.

I also found out I can't manually control the fans in this notebook so I can't use RivaTuner or MSI Afterburner or the likes.

I have to far gone up to dismantling the back panel and blowing cold air using a hairdryer thru it (no dust came out). Will this mean I need to repaste it? I don't have confidence to dismantle the entire thing including the LCD to access the GPU heatsink...

Other than that the laptop functions normally, and without load the GPU runs at about 45-50.
*
first, if you're using the latest gforce 320.18 driver, please replace it with older versions. there has been reports about the suspicion of that version causing many similar artifacts that you described (up until frying the gpu). it looked like the signs of defective gpu's

70c should not be a big deal normally (in fact that's a good temperature for gpu imo; normally we have around 73 to 75c under load). however, it's still better to clean the fans and vents up; if possible replace the thermal paste on the gpu too.

you can observe the temperatures of your gpu with hwinfo64 sensors page. leave the page opened while you play games normally. after the game, check your max temperature for gpu.

does anybody know when the 15.6 new version coming to malaysia, or is there any new 15.6 version to replace the g55?

yeah it's here since last weekend. the sad news is that it has a soldered cpu this time :/

so far there is no news about g55 replacements.

no, the time doesn't get reset without battery. your cmos battery has problem? maybe you should change the cmos battery, not the other one?

uh? this one i am not ready to do it yet. it's conductive.

i think for cpu it's fine. but for gpu, there are some dies near the gpu.
