Is Brazil's FIFA ranking of 22nd important?

FIFA Ranking was created in 1992, when Argentina and Germany were ranked in the first and second places. Brazil, in bad form, was third. It did not seem important. Even when Brazil became first, in 1993, it still wasn't important. Many people never understood its rules. Many people asked at the time, "Is there a ranking? What does it mean?"
Actually, it was not like tennis. It was not representative.

But, when Brazil continued in first place for many years, losing or winning, it became a joke for many Brazilian journalists. Brazil could win, Brazil could lose and Brazil was always number one.

"We cannot take seriously this ranking", people claimed at that time.

But it is different now at this moment, as Brazil is 22th in the FIFA rankings, down three positions from last month.
Different than in the past, people look at the ranking like a symbol of Brazilian football decadence. It was not important when Brazil was first, however it is definitely when Brazil is 22th.

On one hand, the ranking is a symbol that Brazil played six times under Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2013, with one win, five draws and one loss. On the other hand, it is part of the rules. Since World Cup 2010, Brazil has not played a competitive match, only friendlies. In the ranking rules, the competitive matches values more than friendlies, a reason that Brazil does not go up, even with wins.

In July 2010, just after the World Cup, Brazil was third. Last time Brazil first in the ranking was April 2009.
Ranking system is important for one single reason: the division in pots in the World Cup draw. If Brazil were not hosting the World Cup, it would not be top seed. It can be very important for the future.

But more important than the position in ranking is in the understanding of what is happening with team. Building a good National Team is the only way to win the World Cup. That is important. Not the ranking.

i dont see ANY single reason he should hold all these players as they dont have any major assignments and proper league.(tak tau la kalau plan nak pergi S League balik..nampak gaya ni paling reasonable.. HMB pergi liga premier -as we know there WILL be problems with promoted team from FAM league.)

im selangor fans but i agree w u..selangor dont deserve to be in the AFC. seems like they do not have real intention to fight for this cup..and paling mengecewakan aku ialah perlawanan penting afc cup aku pergi ialah bila stadium x sampai seribu.. dengan midfield yang langsung tak kreatif..ahhh boring betul.
problem for Kelantan is.... player selection.dari 2 import yang tak tahu dorang main kat mana skg, fakri, nwamuso (kahkahkah..dia ni taraf OK lah je bagi aku), and petratos...and this time THEY MUST get both Kedah aces. Meen & Badd. spent sikit la Tan Sri dari spent kat pakri takde faedahnye

Do you think we need a new president for FAM? I seriously think the FAM needs a revamp. Our current president has been in charge for 28 years! New bloods are needed. Someone with real football knowledge that can drive our country's football towards the right direction. Too much of politics in FAM. I love my country and would love to see our national team improve but by current standards, it doesnt seem to be going anywhere.
