QUOTE(joonwei23 @ Jun 22 2013, 03:40 PM) This shop's LED not bad, grouped the LED types nicely. I bought over 300 (3 colors) in one go from them last time and all are functional + no uneven brightness sort of problems at all. http://shop34410686.taobao.com/?spm=2013.1.1000126.3.KVsdBiBasically, I will recommend this shape and size one for MX switches, since it fit in nicely. http://shop34410686.taobao.com/search.htm?...e&queryType=catHere's the outcome of it (though in real life, it looks more greener instead of the lime in the picture) This post has been edited by Human10: Jun 22 2013, 04:22 PM

QUOTE(rurushu @ Jun 22 2013, 10:00 PM) if im not mistaken, they're originally clear keycaps coated with black paint, then lasered off for the legends... +1 Or in other words, the quality of it depends on the quality of painting and coating of the paint.

QUOTE(freakenstein @ Jun 23 2013, 04:02 AM) Well , Logitech makes great products what , only thing is that this is the first time they are entering into the mech scene , so that explains the faulty earlier batches lo. But actually one of the reasons I wanted this is because of the O-rings included. So i took the gamble lol No offense but mechanical keyboard from gaming brands are nothing more than some rebranding jobs except for a few who gone further into customizing and designing itself.

QUOTE(Leprodige @ Jun 23 2013, 08:23 AM) I am a keyboard noob so i think it is good for me, can you honestly tell me whats the cons of this keyboard compared to other mech keyboards? Apart from a odder layout, there isn't direct cons. If you are lucky, you will find a fine one that are faultless throughout its life span. But if you are unlucky... Btw, you can't say that you tried the solid feels of mech kb until you tried other boards. Also, price, quality and feature wise, there are better choices. Actually rather than saying round one disperse light better, more accurate we say that LEDs got differentiate into disperse and concentrated light version, and either one can do well in mech kb.
On a side note, some ppl suggest square one because they're brighter, completely fitting in and have advantage of automatically stuck on the mounting spot so your soldering jobs can be easier.
Btw, not sure if you had ever realise there is a different between default cherry backlit (with led) mx switch and normal non default backlit mx switch. The led mounting part is having different design.

QUOTE(Leprodige @ Jun 23 2013, 08:44 AM) I think I tried my friend's logitech G7 something and a steelseries one the layout is okay for me except that M1-M5 button, i cant utilize them properly I used to use a normal keyboard, until it spoil recently so I needed a keyboard urgently I am only familiar with this brand and the price kinda okay then I picked this one hopefully it will make my first experience with mech kb good SS7G is pickup truck proof While CM Storm Trigger is monster truck and Lamborghini proof, owai...

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Jun 23 2013, 10:15 AM) How bright do you need your LEDs to be? It all depends on the current limiting resistors being used, the controller signal for LED brightness and also the brightness rating of the LED. i found that at the brightest setting on the round LED is enough to cause temporary bliness on me, if I look at it directly for more than 1 second. In addition, most LED based downlight has dome shaped lense. In that sense, the brightness property of the LED does not depend on the shape of its lense., it depends on the semiconductor mix that is being used. The part on assembly is irrelevant. High volume manufacturing for Mech keyboards are probably using wave solder technique. The PCB is oriented right side up intonthe machine for soldering. As such, they should not fall out. For DIY purpose, I use kapton tape to hold all the LEDs in place for soldering and peel them off when done. Kapton tapes are made to withstand high temps and are used in soldering, for electrical insulation and etc. I do not know that there are switches made to fit LEDs better. There are only a few SKUs being offered by cherry, plate mount, pcb mount, pcb mount with diode, Pcb mount with jumper. Is there an SKU with better LED fit? Not that I want a extremely bright LED, but it should be bright enough to appeal. And yar, mx with default led mounted is having a more refined mount for LED.

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Jun 23 2013, 11:54 AM) Do you have pictures detailing the differences? This is news to me. I am back in my hometown now, and not bringing too much things with me now, so no drill. May be later I go and google and see if can find some drill.

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Jun 23 2013, 11:54 AM) Do you have pictures detailing the differences? This is news to me. This is the only image I can found. Comparing the LED mounted and non-mounted switch, you will realize (a little hard from the picture) that the LED mounting part actually have a whole covered base instead of a cavity in normal switch. After you insert a round 3mm LED, it is like a one piece design as in the picture. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « If you are interested, you can find 2nd hand one from here. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....&id=14317941387This post has been edited by Human10: Jun 23 2013, 01:28 PM

QUOTE(freakenstein @ Jun 23 2013, 01:18 PM) Yes , that's what I've said in my previous post , it isn't obvious when it's under normal LED brightness. Thus , the whole point here is to determine the quality of the coating of default keycaps under bright light of course. Well , I know most doesn't stay on default keycaps and there's still some who does , hence the whole point of comparing and for reference? Well , I am not an enthusiasts myself so I'm quite curious about the quality , that's all. If you afraid of wear and tear, then might as well start with whole blank? Then you have nothing to worry or wear about. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....&id=10750871018 This post has been edited by Human10: Jun 23 2013, 01:29 PM

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Jun 23 2013, 03:13 PM) Looks like camera angle issue. Honestly I don't get what message you are trying to present here. Looks like just the top cover is Metal Bottom is still plastic. In short, what I want to mean is that for normal switch, it is like a semi cylinder shape with one of the side not covered. For default led mounted switches, it is like a full cylinder, which is the triangular black shadow you saw under the led.

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Jun 23 2013, 07:05 PM) Cherry been making so many switches and now they need to create another mold just for LEDs without proper markings? Unless you can show clearer pictures, i am not buying your argument. http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/switches/key/mx.htmTake a look at their switches variant, some of them are specially to have led by default. May be you should order some switch that come default with led to verify it yourself. I can only update with mah own drill after my holiday ends at September.

QUOTE(joonwei23 @ Jun 23 2013, 11:18 PM) Thanks for the recommendation. I think I'll get these instead though. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10....id=13025250479&those will work right ? Since it's 3mm. I should get extra's when I order too yeah ? I scared I fail or some leds dies later on can replace And since you have done some soldering before, can you recommend which solder did you use ? Thanks again 3mm should fit, but I not really sure bout the height of the led since it looks a little tall in the picture. Yar, extra 10% is safe enough, it don't cost you much and is still dirt cheap compare to getting from local. For recommendation on solder sort of stuffs, better ask kai cause he is more professional on it, I simply hentam with any tools I can find at local hardware stores... QUOTE(yewMP5 @ Jun 25 2013, 03:20 AM) anyone using mech board as their secondary board for laptop? have you ever came across with the problem after the usb plugging in and out continuously? Thinking to buy a TKL for secondary board for laptop ...typing on the laptop keyboard is feeling like torture your fingers in long term... Get a detachable USB keyboard and using cheapo retractable wire that cost rm5 each from daiso Else, go for wireless keyboard which the adapter is small enough to left untouched.
