Note that this game's announcement did say they were using cloud computing... and the first game to hype up usage of that was SimCity.

Better be wary.

i have no problems playing D3 always online. but of course, the servers have to be stable and surely i would support any offline play.

oh and this game uses heavily modified source engine! looks like my old pc might have a chance! hehehe...respawn guys (infinitywards) know how to mod the hell out of old engines.

Thats the problem, unfortunately.

It uses EA servers that is potential to be filled with hackers and server issues.

Since Titanfall uses Source Engine, wont it be easier to use Steamworks?

First week launch server down/crash/patch is common practice for EA games, just look at Battlefield and Sim City.

If that's the case then Respawn would not have made that annoucement. It's a big thing if the PC version ends up running off some crappy EA server. That is if the ea server can actually support the stuff Respawn plan on doing i.e. server side computing for AI and physics.

If not, they might use Steam's Cloud for some computing and server hosting.

Yep and there's also Amazon Cloud which Naughty Dog used for their Uncharted series. But I think it would be silly for M$ to not offer their service to PC as that would only end up feeding their direct cloud rivals i.e. Amazon, Steam etc.

Thats why i said on the other thread that Microsoft is just utterly idiotic to the point that they are willing to sacrifice their PC games for Xbox. Sure it made them a lot of money now, but they could have made more if they didnt dump PC.

Trailer is promising and all but putting EA in front as their publisher is really making me hesitate due to many factors. I loved BFBC2, I regretted pre-ordering BF3.

They don't use rental server, not using dedicated server.
They will be using Xbox Live Cloud by Microsoft which is called Azure Cloud server.

We need to see how the game plays before judging. 6v6 sounds small but remember each person has a mech which can either be driven or deployed to defend/roam. So technically the game can expand up to 12 'players' and that's not including the other AI soldiers running around doing their own things.

I have a sneaky feeling the game is a combination of FPS and some MOBA elements.

6v6 or 8v8 is fine for me. 6 is the minimum, below that the game will feel too empty. depends on map size, 10v10 or more would seem too crowded. except BF series. haha...but i dont like huge maps. as long as the intense level can be COD4 like, i'm more than happy!

Also servers are managed by MS not EA. High possibility wouldn't have any "player hosted" servers.

Bugs are going to be there. I just don't think it will be the scale of BF4 by Dice. Respawn cannot afford to make mistakes Dice make because it's a New IP, they do not have "fans" or "Veterans" to buy them. They need to impress on the very first day the game launches or the game is a goner.

Unless, on a less serious note, it's an attempt to simply bash EA. Then it's ok, we don't need quality tereds for EA games. F**k EA.

The short story is there won't be a true single player mode. Long story is that the game is supposed to be a combination of sp and mp. They haven't fully explain how it works but the core of the game features AI assets running along side human players.

Alpha resolution is scaled in 25%. Actual one will be 4x. That goes for X1.

Nothing on PC yet so it COULD be a console port after all.

Grunts and Spectres are A.I.s in Alpha. They give away 25 and 30 points respectively whereas a player gives 100 points.

We all wish this game to be good, but let's be a lil' skeptical, don't pre-order until you get a good knowledge of what's in it for you. Nothing is announced for PC yet, it could mean it'll "hurt their sales" if they'd announce something, so I'll wait until there is a Beta to prove me wrong or a week before/after release when everything is known.

This game looks interesting

It's based on modified Source engine so it does look a bit dated in terms of lighting and textures. The engine was first released for half life 2 and the original xbox, that's how old the engine is. As for the map, it looks CoDish but i saw a clip where one of the pilots hacked the enemy AI and they became a friendly ground assault. That was kinda cool.

din knew that. i thought now EA racing/fps games all use frosbite as it gave the most advance graphic detail in their co.
i'll wait for more info and this and probably skip the pre-order this time. too many hype and empty promises which result more disappointment to the game.

Well Respawn are not exactly under EA. They only participated under EA Partners - meaning they retain full control of the IP and distribution rights. I think i read somewhere that they have a rather small dev team - like around 50 or so. It's suppose to launch in April so there should be more solid info available next month. And I read that there will be a PC beta/demo before launch too.

True that there is Azure servers in HK, Sg, China. But one of the players asked Abbie the CM of Respawn that if they will have Aus server and Abbie said that they are trying hard to make it happen.

I too, e-mailed Abbie about SG server but she said that it all depends on MS. They are trying hard to make it happen though.

This means that, even though the servers are literally there, Respawn still need to "rent" it to "activate" it for Titanfall.

We'll see how it turns out this coming Beta.

You can test your ping to the Azure Servers through this website http://azurespeedtest.azurewebsites.net/. From my side "East Asia" and "South East Asia" ping are about the same, so even IF there will not be SG servers at launch, we still got the East Asian servers. But yeah like you say la, the beta hopefully will be able to give a better picture.

Well, Respawn already confirmed there will not be Australia dedis.

But they promise a server "nearby" for Aussies to play on a "Acceptable" latency. This means that Australia will need to connect to either Singapore/US.

Which means there is high chance SG will have a server.

CNY money set aside for Titanfall.

Not surprised. It's based on the aging source engine. Games like Half Life 2, LF2Dead series all have rather tame requirements by today's standards. Their goal was to release a 60fps game on multiple platform so i'm not expecting mind blowing visuals from this game.
