QUOTE(petirbuas @ Jun 8 2013, 04:16 AM) I'm planning to get all this certificate in the next 12 month(self study) and want to do early preparation, but I can't seem to find details for Malaysia(I'm specifically looking at Cyberjaya or KL). Please share it here if you've took the test or know something about it especially on test centre location. This is what I've got so far based on some obscure sources, please add if you know anything... CompTIA Linux+ (3-in-1 program) Price : ~RM600 Standard Reference : CompTIA Linux+ Study GuideRed Hat Certified System AdministratorPrice : ~RM1400 Standard Reference : RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide & RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Practice Exams with Virtual MachinesRed Hat Certified EngineerPrice : ~RM1400 Standard Reference : RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Study Guide & RHCSA/RHCE Red Hat Linux Certification Practice Exams with Virtual Machinesfor one. not point in getting RHCSA, RHCE supersedes it. RHCE is also integrated with RHCSA(like the old RHCT). if you failed to score for RHCE, you may still get RHCSA. my advice, just try for RHCE, if you managed that, it'll supersedes the other two anyway. as for exam center, i know of two places for RHCE exams. iverson in damansara, centralpoint. and another one in KL that i don't remember at the moment. i think these are the only two test centers for Redhat related exams(RHCSA,/RHCE/not sure whether RHCVA is still available).

QUOTE(petirbuas @ Jun 10 2013, 11:07 AM) If I'm not mistaken to take RHCE one should have RHCSA, no? http://www.redhat.com/training/certifications/rhce/Linux+ is compulsory for me as its include LPIC-1 which is a requirement if I want to go for LPIC-2 or LPIC-3 later on. hmmm.....i'm mistaken then. must be the new RHCE-RHEL6 new syllabus. http://www.redhat.com/training/certificati...tification.htmlrhel6 policies kinda suck.

QUOTE(ravi6662 @ Jun 10 2013, 11:19 AM) comptia is ok.. redhat is too vendor specific. can also try solaris.. sun ... fedora has it too but redhat is the most recognized. try going to an interview for a linux related position with an RHCE cert in you resume. . plus, in linux, no such thing as vendor specific, it's running the same kernel anyway. cisco certs are even more vendor specific, nobody cares about those. QUOTE(ZoidbergFry @ Jun 10 2013, 03:58 PM) dint really catch the name..i heard there a new test site running now,din hear more details about that. did u took the test as well? mine was RHEL5, under the old policy. will only go "not current" when RHEL 7 comes out. if under RHEL6 policy, it will only stay "current" for 3 years, which sucks .

QUOTE(ZoidbergFry @ Jun 10 2013, 04:27 PM) i gues they gone cheap, gave me nothing..we came we do we left.. actually the jacket comes later. check with iverson. they should at least give you a t-shirt or something, because you can't buy RHCE stuff from redhat store here in Malaysia. they don't post here. redhat don't even give the physical certs anymore. they've gone really stingy.

QUOTE(ZoidbergFry @ Jun 10 2013, 04:41 PM) wait wut ..i got the cert but not the shirt or jacket..maby i should get greedy and follow up with them to get a free jacket you got the physical cert with the cool folder? ok, at least they are not that stingy. it suppose to go like this: RHCT- gets RHCT collared-shirt RHCSA - not sure, should be the same as RHCT RHCE - gets RHCE jacket RHCA - gets a leather RHCA jacket. this is confirmed by redhat personnel. so do check with iverson. it should take like 3 weeks or more after the result for you to get it.

QUOTE(petirbuas @ Jun 20 2013, 04:35 PM) RHCE Price : RM1,500 Iverson should be following this standardized price. Maybe there some additional fee here and there. So 1.8k isn't too far fetched. my memories was around 3-4 years ago. safe range would be 1.4k to 1.8k. QUOTE(toa cheng @ Jun 20 2013, 04:40 PM) my question, lebih kurang mcm tu you'll get a cert number which you can verify here: https://www.redhat.com/wapps/training/certi...ion/verify.html . it's pretty cool nowadays, you only need one number and it links all your redhat certs. QUOTE(ZoidbergFry @ Jun 21 2013, 11:01 AM) i guess i finaly know why my company paid for me..so they can label "we have qualified engineers" ... =.= when a company pays for your certs, that's the most obvious reason(especially SI company) . then they can easily get some projects using your name and cert . you of course will only get your salary . which is why they say, a CCIE "can pat shoulders with the CEO".

QUOTE(kevler @ Jun 21 2013, 02:56 PM) [attachmentid=3498441] i went to Iverson workshop on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) yesterday and the training center gave me this . i think this is a good opportunity for us to certified RHCSA and can retake the exam , unlimited , if fail for the first time wow rhcsa(formerly rhct) really have different syllabus(2 weeks course). wonder if the exam is still the same.

QUOTE(ZoidbergFry @ Jun 21 2013, 12:41 PM) but we who got the certs dun even get to see the CEOs...but our names indeed keep poping up in projects.. that's because RHCE is no where near CCIE. try getting an RHCA, then the CEO will definitely invite you for coffee.

QUOTE(ZoidbergFry @ Jun 24 2013, 10:34 AM) dafaq!!! wow...gona get it myself then..muahahaha..u have 1? obviously no . if i recall you'd need, RHCE + 3 certificate of expertise(from redhat) and then you can try for an RHCA, which is nowhere near an RHCE test. I've talked about it some years ago with redhat personnel(about the test environment). pretty nasty exam. decided i'm not worthy . it's worth it if you're into redhat though. very few RHCA in Malaysia(if any), because the test is not conducted here. even RHCE numbers is only a few hundreds in Malaysia. QUOTE(MalaysiaCarPlate @ Jun 24 2013, 02:48 PM) experience is better than cert, in my view. of course it is. but certs help you to get a good 1st impression. that slight difference between being called for an interview or not. especially amongst candidate with the same experience level. and it's pretty impressive when in an interview, the interviewer would say, "i'm not gonna ask you about linux, since you're RHCE". (true story) plus, cert helps to justify your salary demands too. this includes educational and professional certs.

QUOTE(MalaysiaCarPlate @ Jun 24 2013, 03:21 PM) person one: have tons of cert, have very or no experience. person two: have no cert or very little but have tons of experience. those project done by him have been recorded down and received testimonial from partnering company. Who will you hire? here's your answer: QUOTE(zeroglyph @ Jun 24 2013, 03:17 PM) ...especially amongst candidate with the same experience level... your comparison is like comparing a fresh grad with a 10 years admin. not quite reasonable now, is it?
