Well, I wouldn't say that new stuff sucks and that older releases are better, there were lemons back then, likewise there are lemons now too.

As for scales, don't read too much into them, even the more established companies get them wrong every once in a while.

Finally, after the 'figurine collector = pervert' association, my pet peeve would be the 'figurine collector = i am a rich faq' assumption. Bah, some of my kaki collect watches, one watch can easily buy me a whole cabinet of plastic, my wife collects bags, one bag costs at least two months' worth of amiami invoices lol. Actually I think my hobby is the 'paling murah' one amongst my lot sad.gif

from what i have seen for the kotobukiya shunya cosplay releases, they tend to be on the smallish side, and tend to look a lot better in their promo shots than in real life.

but then again imho kotobukiya's always been run of the mill. like megahouse. nothing spectacular, but nothing extremely poorly made either. consistently average lol.

was it polystone or cold cast that is very brittle and listed as 'ship at your own risk' at amiami?

So why do you then rate orchid seed so highly? You've judging them based on a select few lewd figurines that they did particularly well?

I'm with Dasaru on this, the majority of orchid seed's releases are nowhere close to the quality of GSC and Alter releases. But yeah, everyone is free to like what they like, so let's agree to disagree.

And yes, Alter, GSC blah have their lemons too, quite a few as well.

Yes, orchid seed's girls are normally 'meatier' than those from other companies laugh.gif

I don't mind that really, what irks me more is that they are very inconsistent.

The last three releases I got from them was kurumu (which I liked), nurse sonico (with her oversized head sad.gif ) and bride ignis (not unboxed yet, seems very decent).

Not really into outright ero stuff, so can't comment on those, but I do feel that when it comes to PO-ing Orchid Seed stuff, I don't really know what I'll end up getting.

As opposed to a company like Alter, which I know more often than not won't disappoint, or even Kotobukiya which will often be decent but unspectacular.

Orchid Seed has always been on the expensive side lar, 7420 yen was quite a fair bit for a PVC four years ago!

The last GSC release i got was undersized! Meh! Can't remember her name though... the heroine from guilty crown.

actually she looked good in mikatan's blog too. i believe the prototype colours were much better, and they took great care to not have any photos of her next to anything else to hide her smallness.

One of vertex's figurines got released.

We should be seeing reviews on her in a few days, and would then be able to judge if we want to PO their new offerings (some of which aren't half bad looking)!

I like.
No clue what lineage is though... always been the bane of my PVC thing - the characters I know/like often don't get good releases, and the nice releases are those that I do not know the source.

i took the plunge and got something from ami ami pre owned as well.

as for pre owned stuff in general, noticed a mixed bag in akiba. some were rather meh, but some were brand new. places like mandrake do label their goods (in japanese, but easy enough to understand if you can read chinese) as unopened (MIB) or back in box (BIB).

and, on an unsavory note... was at one of the second hand shops and the generic otaku looking fella next to me (heh, I am pretty geeky looking myself so yeah, double standards!) was looking at the display items and grunting in a questionable way! I sure won't want to be buying his pre-owned stuff. It was kinda disturbing and off putting really sad.gif

also, there is a thriving second hand market in akiba for figurines, with most shops openly displaying the 'buy back' price for the popular figurines. and the prices they are paying are on the low, low side!

i'm ok with the bog standard base from griffon and megahouse really, plain and simple is better than some huge arse diorama base for me!
