Hopefully I can keep the budget under RM 500.

I'm not a car audio enthusiast, just want something to enjoy music so I don't need anything remotely mid end.

I will not be listening to cds anymore, just using my thumb drive connected to the USB port.

My most important criteria is reliability. I do not want it to be expensive due to the risk of theft. Someone broke into my Getz and tried to steal my stock Pioneer cd unit, I said tried caused he couldn't get it out. And I was kinda suprised that even my stock Pioneer unit was even worth stealing but what do I know?

I originally was going to get one of the Brothers unit but am kinda affected by some of what was written on this forum and others eventhough there wasn't any proper explanation in detail, but are their products really crappy? I mean if the sound quality is ok and it doesn't have any functionality problem I'm ok with that.

I'm not into fidelity here, just only for musical enjoyment. My speakers are just fine so no need to change that.

One of the Brothers models look fine aesthetically (the RM 358 one) although some others look badly put together.

The cheapest I saw was RM 800+ for a certain JVC which I spotted in Brothers but I want to aim for something cheaper. The others (with USB port) seem to cost from 1 to 2K.

Thank You smile.gif

I'm living near 1 Utama by the way so any recommendation for car audio outlets is welcomed.

my suggestion: if u just want to hear music from the thumbdrive, can just only buy the wireless fm transmitter, u powered the transmitter using the cigar lighter port, then just stick the usb to it, then it transmit the sound using the radio frequency, like this one http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/2006-06DSale3108486.htm
cheaper i can say biggrin.gif

i'm also like u, just wanna hear the music dun care bout the sound quality. also try searching review for brother's units, cannot find also sad.gif
what i care most is the reliability n durability...

a guidance from crutchfield.com

pls take note the model no. might be slight different than the asian model..or maybe these model does not sold here too...

Abang brand? although you just want a crappy decent sound from them, their reliability also shud be questionable...recommend to avoid at all cost..IMHO..

how about players with detachable frontplate...if security is a concern...

Cheers thumbup.gif

my dad just bought the Kenwood so-called 5 series, it has USB port which can play mp3s on te thumbdrive. I also plugged my iPod to it and it works. It has front cd and back cd changer as the car already haf a changer from previous Kenwood instalment. Price: RM800.

oh, the Kenwood player can control the iPod even though i only connected it using the USB port and not the 'special' RM500 cable that the businessman tried to push.

mm.....
Do you mine getting 2nd hand unit?
I am having a dvd player with MMC/SD and also USB port. Can support plenty of function. Bought at RM1200 but now willing to sell at RM700.
If you interested pls let me know.

i just used for 3 months only. Anyway, i am playing high sound qualit in my car where i spend more then RM15K for my entire system. It seems that dvd player with so much function will lower down the sound quality.
Currently i am gonna upgrade to Alpine F1 series.
