Just to add to the original post:
Source: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/10145834 QUOTE Many old-school RTS players remember what it was like to use one game disc to spawn in a second player. Back in the heyday of Warcraft II and the original StarCraft, you could bring a player (who didn’t yet own the game) into your game and play together. We called it Spawning, and we’re pleased to announce that Spawning is now available in StarCraft II. Nowadays, anyone who hasn’t yet purchased StarCraft II can still play, thanks to the Starter Edition. While Starter Edition players have access to much of the game, there are many features that they previously couldn’t try before upgrading to the full game. Spawning closes that gap. Any player at a lower expansion level who joins a party that includes a player at a higher expansion level is Spawned up, and gets to play using the features and options of the highest expansion level for as long as they’re in a party together. For example, when a Starter Edition player joins a party with a Wings of Liberty-level player, both are instantly playing Wings of Liberty. When those two players then join a party with a Heart of the Swarm-level player, they all immediately gain access to Heart of the Swarm content, and they keep that access until their party no longer includes any higher-expansion level players. Yeh, welcome back to 1998! I had 1 original copy of SCBW and installed it on all of my cousin's laptops back home in Manila. Yep, Big Game Hunters over LAN galore! EDIT: Please note however, that "spawned" players are only limited to play Terran. Still not bad! DOUBLE EDIT: Source: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/10157995/...s_Week-6_4_2013 QUOTE But wait – there’s more! We’ve enabled the Protoss and Zerg races for the StarCraft II Starter Edition. That means all Starter Edition players can choose from all three races for a limited time. TRIPLE EDIT: Anyone who wants to "spawn" or practice games and coaching on fundamentals, please add me on SEA. My details are on my sig. I'm on from 930pm to midnight on weekdays! The spawn feature is working as intended, meaning, the spawned-up party members should only be able to use Terran.
Source: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/10157995/...s_Week-6_4_2013 Spawned-up party members were able to use Protoss and Zerg only until June 11 (or was it 9?). But the point is, spawned-up party members are back stuck with Terran. So it's not a problem, but a feature with limited functionality that is intended to work as such. And come on. Disappointed with Blizz for not allowing you to use Protoss and Zerg? Think about it this way: Blizzard lets you download the whole 15GB game client, FOR FREE. With the Starter edition (by simply signing up for a BattleNet account FOR FREE), Blizzard allows you to play all the units of the Terran race, gives you several maps to play up to Easy AI (and of course with some friends) on and a couple of missions on the single player campaign. This is called a TEASER. Now Blizzard gives you an even bigger tease called the Spawn feature where you could play all the maps and go 2v2/3v3/4v4 ladder. And finally, the biggest tease of them all: 200RM (can't remember the exact price, but it's less than 200RM) for the WoL+HotS pack. If you're not teased enough yet, well, not Blizzard's fault. They did what they can. And I reckon they'd rather go back to making the game better for those who paid for it, and preparing for the 2nd season of the WCS 2013. |

It's meant to be a marketing feature while also helping us to get friends to try out the game without forking out RM200 to buy the game. Starter Edition was meh in its attempt to go a free trial but was better than nothing. Best of all, you can try it at ANYTIME. To my knowledge, such free to play options by other publishers (such as EA) give it on a time to time basis (such as one particular weekend and etc). This is highly convenient and besides.......who can't dig more portraitzz <3 lol |
