I just went to Tioman in Febuary. but i drive there from JB, 1 hour drive to Mersing. The ferry ride is really long. So be prepared if you gonna take ferry there. There are 4 stops. I stay in Sallang (last stop). quite a nice place. The chalet is clean and near to beach.
price also reasonable, RM180 for triple sharing. Seafood is good. price wise around RM150 for BBQ dinner. 3 person, but we wallop a lot.

A bit of tips for you. Please bring a lot Mosquito repellent, Me and my friend kena sand fly gigit like mad. they are like mosquito, but they come in swamp (yes, swamp means like 30-40). We kena at least 100+ bites. 1st 1st didnt notice much as the sun burn is very painful, so didn't feel the itchyness. after 1 week when your sunburn get well. The sand fly bites will itchy like mad. SERIOUS. At a moment i was thinking will i die because of this?

3 things to bring and its a MUST.

1.Mosquito repellent spray. (please bring a good one)
2.Sun Block (invest a bit, me and my friends did put on sun block but tak good enough, still kena sun burn)
3. Aloevera gell (when u kena sunburn, you will need this badly).

Woah o.O

1 mosquito is enough to make my BF and my parents irritated throughout the trip tongue.gif. I think must really invest in Sheldtox and mosquito repellent (btw those spread kinds are much more effective, aerosol cans/spray cans are hit and miss).

I don't think i'm going to take the ferry, my parents can't take long boat rides. Salang is pretty far up north from the airport and the city, what is there's an emergency, is there a local hospital? Foodwise, i'm fine if it not so wallet friendly, as long they are honest and doesn't anyhow charge us then i'm fine with it. RM60 for 3 big eaters in an island i'd say it's pretty acceptable.

Thanks for your detailed reply smile.gif

not really 3 big eater actually. i go with 2 amoi. hahaha. not ask u bring shieldtox la. ask u bring those mosquito repellent spray. those water prove ones.
There is a town where the airport located. pretty run down town if u ask me. I would advice u to stay in Sallang. The water near the town is pretty bad. U wont see much stuff unless u swim out.
Sallang at the Jeti it self u can see many nice fishes. And the water is in much better shape. Picture from my friend FB who is a diver that went with me. too bad I am not a diver, so i bring another amoi snokerling only.

Nice. I was avoiding the town and planned for the East coast (Kg. Juara) but I saw reviews that it is very, very polluted. Maybe it is facing the South China Sea, which explains it.

not sure about kampung juara. didnt go there because the people say tide is very strong. In fact even those waters in the west coast is very strong when I go there.
went out swimming also will feel dizzy and need to swim 2-3x harder coz the current keep pulling us away. the other amoi I bring didnt know how to swim.
I also feel dam scared to go down the sea with her. I went to Redang as well around May 2011. I would say the current in Tioman is 5x stronger than Redang.
1 of the reason is because Tioman is far away from the mainland. Redang is just 30mins - 1 hour speed boat ride. Tioman is almost 2 hours high speed ferry ride. a lot further compare to Redang.
