My personal rant about current tokusatsu shows:

I'm not sure if it's the trend or pressure of Japan not to make any shows with deep exposition and depression. It seems other than Kamen Rider series, both GARO and Ultraman series have fell into the typical kibou and hikari, corny and cringey generic show.

GARO's fall was after YamiTera series, it can be said the anime version is a much better successor than the live-action series. They stopped pushing the limits or experiment with new formula after Makai Hana, even Zero Dragon Blood which I have high expectations for featuring the best knight of the entire franchise, became a typical lovey-dovey action drama, not the once horror toku franchise that was special.

Ultraman series fell even deeper. I dont even know what the studio is trying to do. The Showa series were science fiction focused, early Heisei ones have shit loads of mythological and religious reference that makes it interesting to watch. Now they're just promoting toylines and the current series are just longer advertisements, worse is that they dragged the older series into this mess as well, maybe a case of borrowing senpais power is fine once or twice, but an entire series multiple times.....seriously?!

The main Kamen Rider, the usual Sunday morning series have its strong and weak point. Recent strong ones like W (focus on conspiracy theories), Gaim (focus on Sumerian, Akkadian & Tree of Life mythologies), Drive (rise and fall of technological advancement in a civilization) and Ex-Aid (solipsism, existential view, ontology philosophy reference) made it clear the series is here to stay and not wobble around like others. To grab the older audience which prefer straight forward violence like Kuuga or modern edgy shows, TOEI gave them Amazons series. They are doing this at the same time selling gimmicky toys, hah take that Tsuburaya!
