I had an S3 which I rooted, never saw any red exclamation mark so not sure what you mean, but regardless the Samsung guys surely can check quickly if the phone is rooted or not.
I had to root it to fix a bug that Samsung didn't bother to fix...copy/paste stopped working and the only way to fix was to root the phone so you got access to the root-folders where the cache was, and clear the cache. Then copy/past started working again
Took about 20 minutes to learn how to root and actually do it. Then install some nice file browsers. I never installed a custom ROM, but I installed a file explorer that allowed me to remote access/stream files from my pc over wifi to my phone - so I could watch movies etc from the pc straight on my phone without copy files when I was home.
It also allowed to install a flash player, but it did not work for all content.
Now my S3 suffered sds and I am out of warranty so waiting to get the S4 LTE...

Yeah, my sds came 1 year and 1 week after purchase...just bad luck I guess.
Senheng gives 2 year warranty?? any t&c? wonder if they would cover sds...

I got blueballed today too. First called the Maxis shop in 1MK, they said they don't have stock. Then went to Maxis centre in Gardens, but they said they don't release to public yet, only to those who have preordered. I asked how to pre-order, they said by invitation only, then I asked how to get invited and they said you must be postpaid customer with certain spending. I was getting quite angry because I have been postpaid customer for 6 years and my monthly average spending is 1k+ due to a lot of roaming. He checked my account and a year ago it was switched from private to corporate account which has different rules. I was quite upset.
Anyways, he could not sell me even though he said he had about 900 in stock, could only release on Saturday.
I called to Maxis and they told me I can get as corporate customer if I committ to new plan, but I have unlimited data on my current plan, which they don't offer anymore - max is 4GB/month, so I will keep my plan and just buy the phone without a plan on Saturday. Just annoyed about this.
Wonder if I can get it from 1U without a plan...

"Multi-sim"? you mean if I have a tab and a phone both with maxi sim, or two phones on Maxis at the same time?

Pretty much no difference in spec.
Quad core processor gives better battery life for mixed usage, the octa-core should be better on low demanding usage.

Just beware S3 and Note2 have motherboard problem - search SDS (sudden death syndrome) - suddenly the motherboard will die and if you are out of warranty, it costs you around 680-700RM to fix. Just happened to my S3, one week after warranty expired.

Has anyone managed to buy just the S4 from Maxis without buying new plan or binding to your existing plan for 12/24 months?

True, but I decided I rather spend whatever money on a new phone than to fix the old. And the motherboard they put in is the same type that broke in the first place, so chances are it will break again sometime later...

Checked the SEP list, and it says on top of page: "Prices, inventory and promotions may vary by retailer. Please call the store first to check actual availability of this item"

But OF COURSE they don't list the phone numbers to the stores, so it is impossible to call them! Sometimes I want to give up on the stupidity you can see somewhere.
Called the general support number and they have no clue, and no clue how to get the number to the stores.

Yeah will be slower because the power coming from the notebook/PC is much less then from the wall socket.

Not sure what you mean, but you can use any mp3 as ringtone, just go to settings, mydevice, sounds, ringtones and "add"
If you want a individual ringtone for individual contact, you open that contact and edit
