Are you buying the phone outright? Then it will be expensive for you (as you have said). If you are going for bundled telco plan and phone, no harm waiting to see what's on offer. It's only another 2 weeks or so.
Personally, I prefer the lte version coz my area have lte.

It will be priced lower coz subsidized by the telco company. Depends also on the plan you take and the duration of the contract. You can check out the current non-lte s4 + plan to get an idea.

Agreed. Doesn't make me want to jump in and buy immediately. Haiz.

I went on thur. No lte set though. They had the note 8 on display also. Got other models but didn't really notice.

It should be $2199 with a free gift. I think it was a flip cover. Didn't ask further. Just had a look.
