if you just want to root, no need to S-OFF.if you want to flash rom, then S-OFF is more better, because with S-OFF you can directly flash the kernel while flashing rom, and with S-OFF, you can return to locked + s-on status in future for warranty claim purpose.
i just bought a 32gb silver yesterday, never gone thru htcDev to unlock, direct S-OFF, because i can try lot of rom, include the latest android that google going to release for google htc one.
btw, min have the gap issues, should i go claim the warranty? because i afraid will end up getting a refurbish unit later...
