From my experience to maintain good battery life during idle is to shut off data connection during idle time like sleeping. DSBS is one of the app you can use to make it happen 1% per 8 hours idle.
To have better SOT then you will have to underclock your and make it run about 1.2ghz max.
SOT for gaming , web browsing and reading books are different. You can get 7 hours SOT for reading ebooks , 5 hours of web browsing on wifi and 2 hours for solid 3D gaming.
Some XDA users battery life is just insane and just dont make it as a benchmark because our daily use consist of email , messenger , social networking , browsing , media and music.

My advise is to get proper original car charger with reputable manufacturer. Count yourself lucky when it damage your phone only. Some case of using those china unknown brand for few bucks only car charger fried up the car electronic board as well.

Not a good idea if you tend to park under hot sun sometime. Battery is not good with heat. Except you gonna bring it down when you exit the car.
