Hi there. I'm opening my own gym and we've employed coaches from Kyrgyzstan and Melbourne. Its gonna be a real sports development center and I believe this will be the first of its kind. Along the way we were shopping for bars in China and realized that most of them didn't feel so good. The really good ones like DHS and Zhangko cost like USD850 but that's because they're used in the Olympics.

Then we stumbled into this site and now I'm posting this to see if anyone would be interested in an American made Ohio barbell. We're basically getting 10 bars and was wondering if anyone else would be interested and we can make a purchase. There'll be shipping and customs taxes along with handling costs which will be included and we're estimating that each bar would be about RM1,300. Would anyone be interested in this purchase?

Here's the link.

A RM 1300 barbell a piece? Ain't that a lil bit expensive? IDK much but I think that the much better quality barbell can withhold much heavier weight without bending. Some will start to bend at 500lbs, some will never bend (as per this video).

Well, I'm no expert but that's what I thought about those specialized barbell.

Somehow still on topic, care to explain what do you mean by 'real sports development center'?

Actually, those are our lowest end bars.

We've got an Eleiko power bar that costs about RM6,000 and a pair of Eleiko weightlifting bars that cost RM7,000 each after taxes and shipping. The reason these bars are so expensive is because;

1. IWF certified (can be used for IWF sanctioned competitions which means world records that are created on these barbells are considered legit)

2. Calibrated to 0.001% accuracy. Means the bars will weigh 20KG each, to a 0.001% consistency in all bars.

3. Are rated at 215,000 PSI strength. Most other high quality barbells are rated at 150,000 PSI. The ones you get in fitness first are usually about 90,000 PSI which is why they bend so much.

4. The design of the bars. Most bars in normal gyms, is just a bar and the sleeves held with a bearing and a screw. This falls apart all the time and cannot be dropped.

Our bars are designed to be slammed (with the plates on) because the sleeve sits in the bar, held by two snap rings i think. One on the inside and the other one the outside.

5. Lifetime guarantee against bending or breaking.

And our gym's built upon the idea that, "Every man woman and child, must be fight worthy, balanced, flexible, fast and strong isometrically and dynamically"

And if they look good along the way, that's expected because you can't be strong and look weak. So we brought coaches with various expertise in BJJ from Brazil, boxing from Krygstan, raw powerlifting from Melbourne and weightlifting and therapy from China. Some of us in the team are born here but trained abroad, some are from abroad and we each have our own skill sets. All of us have our own businesses so this was something created out of passion and fun.

We decided that anyone who is a part of this has to have their own business that generates at least a certain amount every month. This is to avoid the gym becoming a business and watering down its essence.

They have to demonstrate a ridiculous amount of skill sets, experience and previous results. And because we work with athletes, we have numbers, which gives us a metric to calculate and its not just by words.

And ethics. Above all, they must love pork.

We figured Malaysia's our home (for some of us) and that we should come home to contribute to the scene. Singapore's so small and yet they're way ahead of us in terms of amateur strength sports. They have powerlifters that squat 280KG and we're struggling with the idea of a back squat. It's time that changes, especially with our 29 million population.

If it's gym equipment, it should be tax free. That's what I gather from looking at the Malaysian Customs list. You can countercheck this.

We found some guys selling these plates

https://www.strengthshop.co.uk/weight-plates.html

25KG plates - RM350/plate (RM700/set)
20KG plates - RM315/plate (RM630/set)
15KG plates - RM270/plate (RM540/set)
10KG plates - RM 230/plate (RM460/set)

Unfortunately there are no bumper plates for 5KG and below.
We also don't know why the hell the 15KG plate and 10KG plates were so steep until they told us that a lot of gyms around the world like to buy 10 and 15kg plates. Which is true....we're ordering like 30 sets of 15KG and 10Kg plates and only 10 sets of 20KG plates and 8 sets of 25KG plates.

We'll be in KK. The decision to be located in KK instead of KL is because we don't want you to come to us and expect to be spoonfed. We want to teach and help show others HOW we think in training. There's NO such thing as a training routine or a program. Everything must be detailed to the finest point. All of us are still refining our detailing and observation skills... and we'll teach you how you can do the same. It's purely about education. Of course we also want to send a team of lifters (powerlifters and weightlifters) and fighters into international competitions and Sabah kids are a lot stronger, in general than West Malaysian kids. Most of our upcoming lifters are from Sabah and we hope to contribute to the nation's sports by assisting MSN in talent scouting and development.

We're not about "Do 4 sets of 12". We're about "Why and when and how should you do these 4 sets of 12 and when should it be switched to something else". And we're not gonna count your reps. We're here to observe your reps and yell cues to fix it.

By basing ourselves in KK, we'll allow people to have an awesome holiday (Forget Phuket. Sapi, Manukan, Gaya are epic islands of our own), relatively cheap epic seafood and hopefully, grow KK into a lifting hub. THEN, we might expand to West Malaysia, cuz that is still home for me.

The person who mentioned this to me was actually the gym owner of the gym I'm currently working out. With so much money on tax, it's worth the effort to get it tax-free since you're opening a new gym.

The only thing that I can think of for the items to be taxed are :
-they found something amongst the gym equipment that is taxable e.g. bicycle, DVD
-not declared well in the customs form. But I'm sure you would be able to have good connections in KK for customs declaration. biggrin.gif
