1 year 2 year 3 year 5 year
11.1 8.6 10.4 9.4

So 2012 it's 11.1, 2011 is calculated as 11.1 - 8.6 = 2%+? I believe not.

I never really understood the conecept of annualised return. Can you explain as per below?

Suppose Fund A makes 10 % in 2012
makes -2 % in 2011
makes 13 % in 2010
5 % in 2009

How to annualise above?

Suppose Fund A makes  10 %  in 2012
                           makes -2 %   in 2011
                           makes 13 % in 2010
                                       5 %  in 2009

How to annualise above?
*
Easy, just start with 100

2009: 100 x (1 + 0.05) = 105
2010: 105 x (1 + 0.13) = 118.65
2011: 118.65 x (1 - 0.02) = 116.277
2012: 116.277 x (1 + 0.10) = 127.9047

Take
(127.9047 / 100) ^ (1 / 4) - 1 = 6.3461%

127.9047 = end value
100 = beginning value
2009 to 2012 = 4 years

In this example, 6.3461% is the 4 years annualised return

There may be easier way to calculate, but this way I can explain to u the mechanism. smile.gif

if im not wrong, annualised as in on average / year.

for your example, if +10 -2 / 2 years = +4% annualised for that 2 years.. is that right?

Try use my example above to calculate the 2 years annualised return...I bet you will get a different result icon_idea.gif

Annualised return takes into account compounding.

Annualised return =/= Average return
