Idea Of The Week: 2 New Recommended Unit Trusts [19 July 2013]

1. EASTSPRING INVESTMENTS DINASTI EQUITY FUND
2. HWANG SELECT ASIA (EX JAPAN) QUANTUM FUND

are these good for investment?

my investment appetite is a small amount monthly contribution for say, 3-5 years, then just let it run by itself. and if I don't plan to sell it within 10 years or so.

do you think I'm up for this? I know this sound silly... but I'm really new to these funds....
another long-term fund that I'm looking at is Kenanga Growth Fund, also with a time horizon of about 15-20 years from now.

Hwang Select Income and UOB Kid Save, which one is more ideal to hold more? Just parking my cash.
or should I start looking into equity? Any moderate risk equity UT to recommend?

For cash parking (u gonna need to use the cash in 5 years or lesser), only consider money market (OSK-UOB CMF, OSK-UOB Money Market, AmIncome Plus) or AT MOST bond funds like OSK-UOB Income or AmBond.

If u wanna INVEST, then only consider Hwang Select Income or KidSave.

If u risk-averse, Eastspring Investments Equity Income or Hwang Select Dividend would be a good choice.

Build a portfolio of at least 4-5 funds, don't buy 1-2 "hot"/recommended funds and expect your money to multiply.

Thanks, yes I know I should build a portfolio of a few funds, I'm still new here, and only starting to build my portfolio. In the coming next 6 months I'll invest in 3 to 4 funds. Reason why I look at more risky fund is because partly I'm still in my mid 20s and I think I can afford riskier investment after all other commitments have been met.

Can my portfolio consist of say 2 or 3 riskier funds and 1 or 2 balanced funds? I'll start small.

You can consider:

Kenanga Growth Fund (Malaysia)
Hwang Select Asia Opportunity (Asia ex Japan) - large capital
Alliance Global Equity Fund (Global)

Not sure about bonds. The best bond fund for me is closed for purchase.

Today's seminar conclusion:

1. OSK-UOB speakers is bullish on small cap either in locally or Asia Ex Japan.
2. Hwang DBS speaker is still bullish on Asia Ex Japan and promoted their two star Asia Ex Japan funds.
3. Eastspring speaker talks about China but no impressive outlook or strategy from them.
4. FSM speaker emphasize on developed market.

One of the speaker mentioned that they expected the wave to shift from ASEAN to North Asian (Greater China) region in early 2013 and that doesn't take place.

Either way I already decided to sell out one of my global fund (over exposed Asia) and throw into Asia ex Japan fund anyway.

From what the Hwang DBS speaker shared, HAF is hoarding cash now at 30%. Waiting for opportunity.

looking at the Hwang's fundamental July reports....it is true for a number of their funds.
they call it tactical asset allocation.... hmm.gif (more expenses incurred for the funds?)
