What rom were you using? Can you enter download mode?

Looks 90% like its SDS meaning its dead go get a warranty claim for a new mainboard.

i see people are doing service to register warranty for others, anyone can enlighten me why there is a FOC to do that? if i offend anyone, please let me know.

Cos he is a kind soul that likes to help others. Plus its just to key in the warranty into the system (not an additional service that need to be paid) which we can also do officially through samsung just that this way is faster. If Samsung find out their staff is charging just to key in warranty info sure the staff will kena right? whistling.gif

For those that are interested, dual boot is just around the corner. Probably will be available latest tomorrow. Though its nothing much to me. I dun get the point of having 2 roms in the same device but that's just me. whistling.gif

you guys have mistaken me. What I meant to assist TS to do a more tidy and comprehensive job is like this.

First, let say in V10, on the first page every update is there...now, what I mean in V11, TS no need to repeat what has already there in V10 page 1...like my suggestion, a post with a link of V10 will suffice to show whatever infos found in page 1.

Moving on, in V12 TS will only need to post latest update in his first post, eventually anyone who needs to refer earlier infos will just need to click on let say a 2nd post with previous link to V11 or V10 page 1 because everything is already there....

I'm not referring those subsequent posts after TS normal first few posting....hmm, sound complicated but I hope you guys catch what i'm helping this forum to stay at the top notch.
*
Nah having it all in the latest thread is better. Linking previous info to older thread will just confuse the ever confused new user even more. They will say "its not on the first page so just feed me" tongue.gif

Plus older thread are obsolete fast no point refering to them. Any important conversation had already been captured by joytest and are linked.

Also he have changelog if old users just want to see whats updated. You dun need to read the whole first page.

And its not so tedious for him cos its just copy and paste when he move to new thread laugh.gif

Is it possible to use the same thread continuously after 2500 posts? Would be easier for newbie like me to find whatever issue that has been discussed earlier.
*
Apparently not. Forum rules say so.

Hmmm, since we are all bored to tears waiting for 4.2.2, anyone want to share how they've used Office type apps? Since there was that video showing the Note/Note 2 connecting to everything.

Personally, one of my gripes is the non-scalable sliders and status bars of these apps, which take up way too much space. It makes the app usable only on screens 7" or larger. I've also tried stuff like Jump Desktop but company security policies usually discourage such programs.
*
Flash aosp and you get 4.2.2. tongue.gif

Anyway my only advice on the way to use Office apps on android is to NOT use it at all except for viewing. rclxms.gif

My gripes on AOSP

-i seem to be getting SYSTEM as a major battery drainer for some reason
-The OASP camera quite frankly sucks. Damn noisy
-Plus no photosphere. if it had that then maybe i could live with the a lil suckier camera at low lighting
*
Well for me 2 of them are not issue and the third unimportant for me.
- System being high on battery list usually means the screen is under utilized OR wrong reporting by some kernel (at one point redpill and neak was having this issue). Never really had issue with Android OS in aosp.
- Camera sound can be disable by moving/renaming/deleting the sound file
- I dun think i will use photosphere even if it is available. Not important for me. tongue.gif

Sorry guys, but what does the SDS stands for?

And does this happen to Note2 only or other Samsung smartphone as well?
*
Sudden death syndrome. Happens to S3 and Note2.

lol when i said noisy i meant that at low lighting conditions, images taken are very grainy, much more compared than touchwiz camera
*
Ah ok noted, now that's totally different. tongue.gif Samsung own camera is actually very noisy as well for my standard. Never really tested the cm10.1 camera in lowlight. Let me try later.

Mainly due to mainboard failure? Any way to prevent it or is just solely depends on luck?
*
EMMC partition corrupted and fail. Update to latest recovery, kernel, rom and bootloader to lower the risk as Samsung is supposed to implement a fix for it in the latest firmwares just they never announce it.

Otherwise its purely base on luck.

So can we use the EMMC Brickbug Check at Playstore to check before buying the Note2, so that to minimize the risk of SDS?
*
Er yes you can. But as always it just reduce the risk.

Oh, how could samsung not rectifying this issue? Cannot imagine if the SDS hit those device which is after warranty period, how much will it cost to replace the mainboard...
*
The easiest way to rectify it, is suppose to change the whole mobo. unsure.gif So if Samsung goes this path it will have to give everyone new phones. tongue.gif Updating the EMMC codes have a higher chance of bricking it compared to leaving it to SDS. So far most SDS issue surfaced after 6 months.

They have done some patching work in the kernel and bootloader just no one can confirm it works as there is nothing official. Supposedly with this patch the device will not brick but will freeze or reboot if it encountered a corrupt part of the EMMC.

I suppose if the SDS really happen on a rooted Note2, the service centre wouldn't be able to detect it right? Since it totally cannot boot up at all. Or they still can detect it is rooted and refuse to honor the warranty?
*
There are 2 type of reported SDS.
1) Totally dead no longer able to get into download mode hence it is undetectable if the device is rooted or not. Warranty is safe.
2) Partial dead is the problematic one. Unable to boot or get into recovery BUT download mode is still accessible BUT unable to flash anything with odin. Hence in this situation, service center can see that your rooted device is modified and at the same time you cannot fix it. This may cause your warranty to be void.

For the 2 scenerio, if I reset my counter with Triangle Awaya each time I flashed a new rom or rooted, it shouldn't be an issue, right?
*
I dunno as i dun use TA. As long as the download mode counter is always 0 and not modified then its OK.

Just wondering, sometime when i turn on my mobile data but it doesn't detect or function until my phone is restart...is it normal ?

Btw, Using the latest original rom update.
*
For me it is not normal. I have seen people report this issue BUT i never encountered it. So i believe it could be some app interfering or you all got some kind of hardware issue.
