I have a problem with playing raw fraps videos. Everything I play them in mpchc, my monitor will flicker a few times and then my pc freezes. The exact same thing happens when I try to converting the fraps video using virtualdub using either divx or xvid codec.

How can I tell if its really the codecs that are causing this problem or other sources? I use the latest Klite codec pack currently.

Or do I have to do a clean removal of video codecs? If so how do I do it ? My method is going into add/remove programs in control panel and then uninstall klite and then restart before installing the newest each time I upgrade the codecs

The freeze only happens to fraps videos which I capture. The other videos which uses avi, wmv or mkv does not freeze when I play them on mpchc. I have set my mpchc to use DXVA from my 5850.

The same flicker and then pc freeze also happens when I try to encode the fraps videos on virtualdub.

OS is win7 ultimate 64bit
Fraps is output to avi and by raw I mean that Fraps records gameplays uncompressed using their own codec (or so I read). So long as its avi format, mpchc plays it .. at least thats what I was able to do since during winXP times.

I do not know where the problem lies, on my brother's pc, I am able to play the file and compress the file in virtualdub but even with a clean OS install, I still get the freeze forcing me to hard reset

Did you tried with other video player?
DirectX is the the only problem i can think of, cause both mpc-hc and virtualdub use DirectX for display/playback video.

i have tried with VLC player. 1min video @ 2.5gb fraps. Fraps settings was 30fps @ fullscreen
Vlc was choppy as hell but then must be my cpu or something. Dont know how to set dxva for vlc.

I cant really seem to reproduce the problem on mpc-hc. Tried so many times and lately it seems to run fine .. the whole 1min
But compressing it with vdub is a confirm problem.

edit:- resolution i am recording at is 1080p
