@tan_pang
If you need the entry to be in front, please PM shockw@ve to add it in. No point discussing. If no Mod sees this, nothing will go there.

No offense. Cheers!

Hey ppl i got a few important questions regarding AV. Hope u guys can help me out , thanks. ( Preferably answered by pros ).

1. What is the best FREE AV out there right now?
2. If i plan to subscribe an AV , which 1 should i get and WHY?
3. What is the price range for good Avs.
4. What is the lifespan of free/subscribed Avs.
5. Is there anyway to fasten an AV scan? Or is it norm to be slow.
6. HOW can i subscribe an AV? Through credit card online? or get from some software shops like LYN ?
7. Quantity or Quality? ( AVs )
*
i assume the 'subscribe' version you said is the AV that need to pay
1. this question should not be asked again and again becoz there is no any single AV software that is 'the BEST'!!! some will said Karpasky (or Active Virus Shield), but some will tell you Avast!, and some will say "AVG" (i personally think it is most sux tongue.gif )...... there is many factor that affect a person decision on it.
2. McAfee or Panda, dun try Norton
3. price range is between Free to $29.90 (us dolar), but some of the AV will be higher
4. free AV got 'lifetime' life span tongue.gif as long as you update always, the 'subscribe' AV also same, need to update always and pay when expired
5. fasten the scan... hmm.gif select some area only to scan or file types only to scan can fasten, but not safe... The best way is scan in Safe Mode, but usually take longer time
6. credit card maybe the best way
7. most of the AV software now cannot compatible with other AV software, therefore i think you should pay higher priority on 'Quality'

I have been using AVG Free for a long time now, but recently my friends recommend me to move onto Avast! He didnt exactly clarify why to do so but I am curious since I went through this thread and find most of you are on Avast! than AVG Free. Anyone wants to enlighten me?

How about any Anti-Spam software which you guys have tried and find it useful with Microsoft Outlook?

look at this thread

12. Avast Professional version 4.7.986 - 92.82%
13. AVG Anti-Malware version 7.5.465 - 92.14%

The different is 0.68% = around 1188 virus... sweat.gif

actually, theres no word as 'the best antivirus on the planet'.am i rite?

Quotation from Virustotal:

QUOTE
Warning:

VirusTotal does not substitute any antivirus software installed in a PC, as it only scans individual files on demand. It does not offer permanent protection for the user's system either.

Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file.

Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware. You may become a victim of misleading advertising, if you buy such a product under those premises.
