QUOTE(neversaydie @ Oct 14 2006, 12:35 PM)
any ideas how to configure a firewall to unblock a network comp from accessing the internet gateway(in which the firewall is installed)?
*
tat will depends on what firewall, every firewall has its own setting style unsure.gif
but most firewalls I tried can auto detect the "safe zone", which should allow those connected to the network to get to the gateway??

I'm now using Look'n'Stop... quite a nice firewall, light... not a freeware though... and the rules set configurating could take a while if u r not used to it =/

luckily I still manage to get all my rules set figure out, and now it's working nice and steady =)

So what's the best free firewall currently?
*
there is no "best" in sense of firewall as well as anti-virus software... all u can do is read more reviews on them and try those you find suit your needs, that would be the "best" for u wink.gif

the what firewall you use to replace your past ZA ?
*
I changed to a few others, such as Comodo (simple and easy but personally not liking it tongue.gif), Look'n'Stop (rules-based, not recommend for newbie, have a prob - making pc slow shutdown), now using Outpost (so far so good, not prob yet for 2 weeks+)

i planning to change firewall too
but i'm not sure what to go
heard outpost good but it has a lot of problem occur
my friend having trouble granting access to software using outpost
*
is it? so far I use it's ok tho blink.gif

QUOTE(Andrewhajime @ Jan 12 2007, 08:11 AM)
ya ...
i do some searching around
i read that sygate is nuke-able  brows.gif
outpost is not really user friendly and it take time to set
*
not so time consuming in configuration if u compare with Look'n'Stop which is totally rules-based. In outpost at least there is some "default" rules sets for u to choose for different programs, mostly automatic, just need some minor adjustments to ur own needs smile.gif

i prefer sygate over outpost, sygate really easy to understand & c wat going on in ur network too.  icon_rolleyes.gif

may b it's bcos I shifted from LnS (Look'n'Stop) to Outpost, so it's no big deal with its configuration (compared to LnS) tongue.gif

p/s: I used Sygate for quite a long time b4 I start switching here and there due to no longer support of Sygate...

1 thing I feel about Sygate after I changed to other firewalls is tat it's "easy and simple", tat's the good but also can b the weak point for a firewall software...

can u describe more specified ? rclxub.gif
*
I'm not sure whether I get it right... by using the example of Outpost, if I didn't add rules to the application, just set allow or block... it will mean "allow all connections" and "block all connections"... there is no limitation or control on the connections allowed... tat might bring some troubles if the user is unaware or careless... it does provide some lvl of protections, just tat the lvl is not very high...

well, tat's just my opinion... do correct me if I'm wrong unsure.gif

What is the best free firewall now? Sygate has long been discontinued. ZA does not work on my pc, always get this truevision error thing which crashes the pc. PC tools firewall plus which I am using now is worthless at best
*
may b u can try out the outpost firewall... if u are familiar with rules settings and stuffs
