Cost wise : MY bike vs SG bike
MY bike
Daily S$4 VEP
Daily S$5 ERP if no IU - if your route to office has ERP gantry activated during your travelling to office.
Else pay SG$100+ for IU installation.
Petrol can fill in MY Ron95
Pakai till bike kaput or 20 yrs ++
Can buy Naza Blade 250  whistling.gif
Kapcai EX5 cheap to buy and maintain.

SG Bike
No VEP
ERP paid as per gantry charged
Petrol still can fill MY Ron95
Pakai till 10yrs (if new) or buy used renew COE later (S$2k)
3rd party ins for <200CC is ~ S$300
Kapcai price is 1:1 MY price. whistling.gif

Forget about EX5 in Singapore highway unless u running 50-60kmph.
The EX5 will vibrate till ur hand drop off. Get a better bike if u cross border daily.

Once you get your PR you cannot ride Msia bike in SG.

I been riding for 4 year+ in SG

Hi all,
This is my 1st post. Hope to get some suggestion I am Penang people (26 years old) who working for automation industry for 5 years already. Recently thinking to change job.

I get a offer from Singapore (SGD 3600) and a offer from Penang (RM 4000).

-Singapore-
Salary: SGD 3600 (No epf)
Rental : SGD 700
Transport and other expenses : SGD 1000
Left SGD 2000.

-Malaysia-
Salary : RM 4000(epf 13%), Total RM4520
Rental : RM 210
Transport and other expenses : RM 1000
Left RM 3310.

After compared, Savins in SG minus savings in Malaysia. The differences is around RM 1500. I love staying in Malaysia. BUt the extra income that can earn from SG is kinda attractive too.
Both is waiting for me to sign my offer letter. I have a very hard to struggle where to choose.
Hope I can get some opinion/suggestion here...

One point is, I will definately come back if I'm working in SG.

Balance SGD 2000 is different from RM 3300 in MY
your phone/internet bill only S$60/month compare to Msia RM200.
your Water/electric bill RM100. S$0 consider inclusive in rental
your iphone less than 1/2 price.
you dont have to pay for petrol RM200/month. MRT around $S50 month.
the rest of the thing is like 60% discount.
If you like travel it make lots of different.

I like stay in Malaysia(from Penang too) but the figure does not look correct, especially when Car/Home installment comes in.

I was working in KL as fresh grad with 1.7K salary 6 years back. End of the month i got nothing left. My parent have to pay my car installment/repair.
Then i move to SG with 1.6K salary. I managed to save around 800/month. That was 6 year ago.
Now the starting salary around 2-3K much better.

Hi all, I have a question here..

So I was hunting for a job in singapore and applied some jobs thru Jobstreet.. some of the applications are under direct company application while some are under recruitment company.

So there was a person from recruitment company called me up for an interview and this noon I had my interview session with him.. The interview went smoothly and he introduced the job position (company background, benefits, allowance + OT etc) that I have applied for.

Then at the end of the interview, the interviewer said he will send my CV to the company and it's up to the company whether they'd like to interview me again or not..

So with the help of recruitment agency, do you think the chance of me being called up will be high?  hmm.gif

I have been sending applications since 2 weeks+ ago and today was the first interview  sad.gif
*
I would say dont put too much hope on the recruitment company. for 1 position they ask everyone apply for the related job go to interview at recruitment company. Those suitable only goes to the company.

If you receive this kinda of request and you still in Malaysia, ask them if they can do phone interview. Chances are yes. Try this out.

My partner been to few recruitment company and so many of them call for same job offer. It duplicated and the requirement is all different but when ask the company and position, all give same answer. Worst some even say OT paid some no, some say mon-fri, some say mon-sat, some say give allowance for transport, even car, some say give nothing. They cant even get it right.

She even blacklisted some recruitment company that give fake information like super high salary range but when interview missing 1-2K or some allowance not included, saturday work without OT when it is mon-fri day work.

Don't think its withholding, because my friend never got the money back. She was conned into it, and since she already signed contract and agreement, resigning within one year will result in penalty. That was a painful year.Though it happen quite some time ago, so maybe these sort of things don't happen anymore, but nevertheless, gotta be on my guard right.
Care to share how is it illegal, was thinking of renting one, especially Studio.
*
I think it is not tax, some recruitment company charge for "agent fee" on monthly basis, this is usually happen to low income job. Ask for any hidden fee before you sign. I am sure you need to read the whole agreement of course. If you not convince bring back the job offer and read up and down with your friend.

My was on contract with recruitment company and they charge one time S$50 when u get the job. The rest are standard.
Warning on contract with recruitment company, very complicated mc, leave application. MC claim is like ah long chassing money from debtor.
They need you to pos the MC and if missing you dont get the MC, photocopy no accepted. I learn how to be accountant when i was on contract. Need to check all the claim every month. Hope others are more lucky than me.

Lock 1 room also legally not allowed. They lock one room was because just in case HDB people come and check, they will open it up and says they still stay there. Legal HDB means the landlord will need to apply through HDB to rent out the entire unit. Most landlords don't want to do it cause rental is taxable

If renting illegal and HDB found out, HDB have the rights to ask the tenant to vacant the premises immediately.  That's what I heard but not sure how true
*
Claiming lock 1 room is not allow, I am not sure how you declare the owner staying o not. There a room for owner and he can come and stay in the room. I still have not seen any HDB office for the past 5 year renting here. Just close your door when you home and never open to anyone. HDB office wont come in.

Dear Friends,

I just get my approval and they required me to do my medical first in SG before they proceed with my EP card and etc.

My basic is 3000 SGD, so I assume I will get the Q1 EP.

I just wondering regarding the Tax, as in my contract of employmeent. On the tax part, it is written that all the income tax is under IRAS and SG goverment.

Is that mean I have to declare and pay my own?

Can otai here advise me regarding the amount of Tax? I have look at IRAS website but still not really understand on the procedure.

I probably start work in SG this August 2013.

Thank you all.

Regarding the Tax, you only need to worry 1 year later, when your company give you 8A form, it time for you to submit the tax.

Some company auto submit, some manual depends on the employer. $3000 salary around $400 tax or less. Depending on your bonus.

dont worry too much on that.

When time come IRAS will send you mail to ask you to pay 2-4 month after you submit. Just pay whatever amount there.. Unlikely the calculation goes wrong as the shown in detail. Just remember to submit relief if you have any.

Welcome to SG life. Eat all the good food you can think of before you come down..

Advice for renting.
If possible avoid agent. those goes to agent because it is expensive or owner not good. But without agent it is much more hassle.
I jumped 5 places in 5 year without agent. Google is your best friend.
If you have friend here, you can ask him check the NTUC notice board. Best place to get low rental room. Google is also your best friend.

Share with you rental rate i paid
2008 $420 common room inclusive utility and internet. Stay with owner. Walking distance to JE MRT.
2009 $550 common room inclusive utility and internet. Stay with owner. Previous owner give the room to his relative. (Stay here 3 month as the next room not available yet. The owner raise from $500 to $550. 2 days before we move it). Walking distance to JE MRT.
2009 $600 Master room with bath room. PUB shared around $100/month. No owner. Take bus to MRT. Stay till owner sold the house.
2011 $600 Master room with bath room. PUB shared around $100/month. No owner. Take bus to MRT. Stay till owner increase rent to $900.
2012 $550 Common room. PUB around $80. No owner. Take bus to MRT. Stay till my HDB ready
2013 ----- My own HDB !!!!!.

I'm planning to stay around Nusajaya so I will be taking 2nd link. I understand that there's no free parking in SG, but was hoping that I can get cheaper (cheaper than in Tanjong Pagar/Anson Rd area) season parking around Jurong/Jurong West area and travel by MRT from there.

Any idea on how much is the season parking around Tanjong Pagar/Anson Rd?
*
Your reason to take MRT to avoid jam or to avoid ERP ?

Basically you are driving to 90% then jump off the car then join the sardine pack MRT.

And you work odd hours, no jam, no ERP why pay MRT. Better use the money pay season pass near working place.

Jurong area(near MRT) car park mostly taken by HDB owner already. I asked once and he say there are 30 people in queue list(priority for owner), you wanna add your name?

I guest the same for commercial car park.
With all the trouble, it better rent a room here.

IMHO, not cost-effective, not time-saving.

Yeah I was planning to avoid ERP. So if I understand correctly, if you don't have I.U. unit then you'll have to pay flat-rate for ERP per day, but if you do have it then it will be charge accordingly (based on time and day/public holiday).

I'm planning to bring my whole family here, that's why I want to explore option of staying in Johor.
*
UI only cost around 150. I believe not worth the effort. Most ERP not active at 6:30am and 3pm
