Just bite the bullet and take the low pay first. Slowly climb up the ladder. Entry level you need to take note you are fighting among the rest of the nationals like Philippines, China and India.

Best is to start in those small company that "one leg kick all". Pick up as much skill as you want and 3 years down the road focus on the skill that you are keen and go for it.

Since you do not want to simply change job in Sg (it's troublesome for non PR), you should look into job scope and its contribution to your career development as well. IMO without taking any other thing into consideration, I won't take 3.7 to 2.9 offer.

My gf got offered 2.5k sgd as freshgrad (she just graduated this June). She rejected it because of the job scope.

I think equivalent to "Sales". Normally sales is low in basic but high in commission.

$1.7k is pretty low. Gotta be prepared to live a pretty sad life quite frugally, transport, room rental and food alone will easily eat up 70+% of that, leaving you with not much in the way of luxury spending, shopping, entertainment, savings, etc. Up to you lor depends how desperate you are to get a foothold in SG, and whether you believe you are capable enough to rise through the ranks (relatively) quickly.

I don't know where you are getting to in guiding young couples to start a family in Singapore. Throwing in an X6 with a S$1.6Mil condo example; is analogous to killing the self-esteem of a guy struggling to decide a S$1.7k flat monthly pay.

85 to 90% of locals stay in Public Housing in Singapore and only the 60th decile and above owns a car. For all the intents and purposes of your post, it just suggests that you will either struggle to start a family young, or you just die trying. Extrapolating your "guide" attest to this.
