QUOTE(rawrkun @ May 30 2013, 11:44 PM)
- Will I be able to seek employment elsewhere with the same pass or do I need to reapply again?
No. Once your current pass is terminated, you are like a short term visitor come to Singapore for holiday. Your new company will have to apply a new pass for you.

- If I reject the current offer, will I still be able to work in SG since the company has already applied for a pass for me.
Hearsay that MOM might be stricter with your 2nd pass.

- regarding the tax issue, for the first 183 days before year of assessment, I am considered as a non resident. So for the first 60 days, i do not need to pay any tax but from the 61 to 182 days my tax will be fixed at 15%; and only from the 183 days onward will I be regarded as a tax resident. Am I right, or is there anything else that I miss out. 15% tax out of 2.8k is damn high  cry.gif
Yes, if you work for >=61 and <183 days, your tax will be 15% of your gross salary. If you work for more than 183 days (which is very likely since you are on a 2-year contract), then you refer to the resident scale.
*
QUOTE(crazy25kid @ May 31 2013, 08:40 AM)
anyway, the 15% will be rebated back to you once u work more than 183 days, if i am not mistaken, but it will be thru future deduction of tax.
*
Nope, IRAS will refund to your bank account.

QUOTE(c_f_lambda @ Jun 11 2013, 01:58 PM)
-Singapore-
Salary: SGD 3600 (No epf)
Rental : SGD 700
Transport and other expenses : SGD 1000
That's more than enough for you to take cab to work everyday (assuming $15/trip). You can settle for bus/MRT and occasionally cab for less than $200.

Left SGD 2000.

-Malaysia-
Salary : RM 4000(epf 13%), Total RM4520
But your take home pay is only RM3560 or lesser (can't remember employee EPF is 11 or 12%). Should not take employer contribution as your consideration factor.
Rental : RM 210
Transport and other expenses : RM 1000
That's assuming you stay nearby your workplace and walk to work or take public transport or drive a loan paid off car? If you are still serving your HP loan, incl. petrol, toll, parking, insurance, saman etc. definitely more than RM1000.
Left RM 3310.
You don't have RM3310 cos your nett pay is only RM3560.

Well, everyone has his/her own opinion. I'm not a finance person and your terms are too chim for me.

The reason why i don't consider that is because i prefer to take charge of my own money that comes to my bank account rather than EPF (aka government) where i don't know if i can even make it to that withdrawal age or whether our agency still have money to return to us X years later.

I will be working near Novena soon and I need some advice regarding accommodation here.. may I know which area is the most affordable and convenient for me to rent?? might even consider staying in JB and commute daily in the future once I'm more familiar with the area....
*
Usually there will be a 1-year contract if you rent via agent. Anyway, if you work in Novena, you can try Whampoa, average $650-750. I don't know how do you term "affordable". There are lotsa direct buses that go to Novena.

Btw is nets and ezlink commonly used to pay taxi? Any surcharge?
*
It's quite common, in fact i think cabbies prefer to receive payment by NETS and EzLink - don't need to dig for small notes and coins. There is an admin fee of $0.30 for payment by EzLink, not sure whether it's the same charge for NETS though.

QUOTE(Fiona Chin @ Sep 12 2013, 01:07 PM)
I seldom heard bank undercut people after certain position, most of my colleague that come here from Malaysia actually got a raise compared to their MY salary. I was one of the person doing the interview so I know.  tongue.gif They usually follow a pay scale according to your level, and not your nationality. At certain level, network is more important than your abilities. If you restart in SG and the bank wants you to deal in the local context, then you may be worse of than a local fresh grad. Local experience too.

When you are so high up, you should deal with hunters not recruiters. Sorry but when you think your pay is low because of this Simply because the candidate is a Malaysian., I would think you still have to long way to go. Good luck though.
*
I've encountered that myself during my early days here. One of the local banks here actually divide 2.4 of my pay in Malaysia just because they are paying SGD. Gosh, that bank should go fly kite.

If the salary offered is SG market rate for your job then should be fair enough. 1 to 1 our Indonesian friend would love to come here. After 1 to 1, discount 50% also worth for them.

Yup, of course, market rate is the key.

hello guys

can intro any good restaurants? it's my partner birthday next saturday and i'm looking for some fine dining to celebrate with her, any cuisine, my budget is around S$300 for 2 persons
i know there are a lot of top restaurants in singapore, which expect to spend more than 300 per person sad.gif still can't afford those, it's only my 3rd month here
*
If you fancy Italian cuisine, can try Etna at Duxton Road. I, being a commoner, prefer this over Jamie's Kitchen. Best part is, you don't need to queue in the ridiculous line just to get your number.

at last my ep granted. Anyone got good place near ktph hospital or ttsh or somewhere near or central to these places, eg bishan? is it easy to find a place without paying the agent fee? ep granted this morning, flying in one hr time, tomorrow and next week orientation...
*
Congrats and welcome to the island. If you are looking somewhere near TTSH, can try Whampoa or Balestier area, got direct bus to hospital, Novena, Orchard, Dhoby Ghaut MRT etc.

I would think it's kinda easy to get a room without paying agent, it's just the matter of how much time you willing to spend in hunting.

Hi all beloved forumers, I will be working in Singapore on 1st November. Planning to stay in Gelang Patah and travel to work. Sadly, the working place is so far away nearby Eunos. Hope can negotiate for transport allowance.
*
You come and look for jobs in SG but you wanna stay in GP and hoping your employer will contribute to your travelling allowance? First thing comes to my mind, why should they?

You can still settle for a $550-700, range for A/C and without A/C room in Ubi, Aljunied, Macpherson, Bedok, Kaki Bukit etc.
