i did hsbc for 9 months, 3 renewals.. they gave 0.9-1% each time.. problem is it is a 3 month fd

scb on the other hand, didnt have to locki... it is a savings topup and if you pull out earlier you still get something based on daily avg bal..

Poor people don't have a lot of cash, really. 1% interest rate of 100 only 1 dollar per year. Most of my cash went into early pay off of my house loan here, better off. Left few months of expenditure in saving accounts for rainy days which I put in OCBC for convenience of withdrawing money and internet banking.

If you want liquidity from fix d, break the sum into smaller parts, then choose different maturity periods so that they mature at different time. If you got 50k, then 10k 24 months, 10k 18 months, 10k 12 months, 10k 6 months, 10k 3 months, so every quarter or what you got money to do whatever you want. It take some time and patient for this to work. Op for the monthly maturity one if you really have problem managing the cash flow. I have been doing this for few years for the down payment for the second house I and my fiance planning to buy. Recently we lump together all the money and make 3 3-month maturity so each month we got cash at hand for the down payment and rubbish fees. Fix d interest rate + flexibility thumbup.gif .

For emergency case, better buy insurance than saving it on your own.

Hi, I have gotten the IPA letter for my EP. However, my passport will expire on March 2014. Does it mean that the expiry date of my EP will only up to March 2014? can i renew the passport now? (the IPA letter has already registered with my current passport number)

in sg, with a low interest environment i believe should take your sweet time to pay your loan back while you take your cash to invest in something which offers higher yields..

no lor, for hsbc min is $25k as they are promoting their advance acct, so have to put one lump sum... so i mix between diff banks lor

yea... got insurance liao, investment savings/life, 32 critical etc etc, medical, ntuc income, ntuc membership.. yada yada.. all these pushers vmad.gif

For EP holders, DBS no need deposit, open account with zero balance also can, however you will need to top up to $1000 sooner or later otherwise kena $2 monthly fee.

Yes you can.
When you come over to Sg, bring along your old passport to verify that you are that person.
That was what I did when I came.
I renew my passport 1 week before coming to Sg too.

what is the period granted? you should see it in your IPA(employee copy). its at 1st col, 4th row (below the application date).
i believe it the same format as mine for renewal (just received it yesterday)

the IPA just ties to individual...in the case for us foreigners, it will be the passport.
if you renew your passport, you are still the same person.
all u need to do is prove that the passport number in the IPA is you, there is no issue.

The IPA is only to allow you to start work before completing the process and getting your card while on visitor pass
You being able to enter SG is not the business of MOM...tat would be your own problem.
There is also a condition that one must have a valid visit pass.

the period of the EP is either 1 or 2 years generally based on the form the employer fill up and whether MOM grants it
should have nothing to do with your passport expiry (unless your passport is already expired, then I have no experience with this).
