QUOTE(samteng @ Sep 4 2013, 04:55 PM) The rent in Serangoon North or Ang Mo Kio area would cost you $500 to $600 a month in a 3-room flat. That sounds like the rent for a room, not an entire flat. |

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Sep 6 2013, 10:52 AM) If you notice from the malay news in SG or Lee Hsien Loong's national day rallies etc... the govt in SG is referred to as "Pemerintah", and not "Kerajaan" because there is no Raja in SG. |

QUOTE(Stephen80 @ Sep 10 2013, 05:06 PM) Nope, it depends on the decision of transport. If you ride motorcycle, You still can wake up at 6:45am, start go out at 7:15am and reach office at around 8:30 am while the office start work is 9am. If your office is in Tuas, perhaps. If your office is in Orchard or CBD, Jurong or Changi... good luck getting there before 9. And if it rains, good luck getting there at all. This post has been edited by seantang: Sep 10 2013, 06:14 PM |

QUOTE(Stephen80 @ Sep 11 2013, 01:29 PM) My office is near Changi there. Sometimes need to go Keppel shipyard at Tuas also. Both routes no problem to start journey from JB at 7:15am. I stay in AMK. I'm still asleep at 7:15am and will be for another 45 minutes. And from AMK to Orchard... it's 15 minutes if traffic is smooth, 30 minutes if it's congested. The fact is that if you work 8 hours at the office, 4 hours commute... that's like a 12 hour working day. And if you're like some people who work 10 hours or more at the office, a 4 hour commute is torture, like pulling teeth. And the higher up you go, the less impact the savings from staying in JB is (as a proportion of your salary). But your commute stays torturous because there's still only 24 hours a day no matter how high you go. The payback from staying in JB gets old very fast. If you're in a job with no significant advancement long term... maybe JB would be a good idea. That's why the JB thing simply works for production workers etc. QUOTE(Stephen80) Now traffic in KL aslo no different, need to jam around 2 hours to reach. If you're unlucky enough to stay up north in Rawang, Cheras and work down south in PJ or Puchong etc. Even then you can bypass a lot of KL via the highways.I used to stay in SS4 and work in Section 16. Smooth traffic, it's a quick 10 minute drive down LDP. If it's congested... about 30 minutes. All in all... if your salary has the potential to climb significantly, it's a no-brainer to stay in SG. |

QUOTE(Quasi-Suave @ Sep 11 2013, 04:39 PM) So its MYR3.7 vs MYR7.25 (converted at 2.5x). That's almost 2x (approx. 95% upside) on your current salary after conversion. I think it's acceptable esp. if your role has the potential to grow in the future. Employers want to hire someone to fill a role. If that role is worth less/lower than what you earn now... they are not going to offer you more. They are not going to pay more than what that role is worth. Your friend who earns RM8K should be going for roles in Singapore that pay S$8K.In a related news, a bank recently offered someone SGD4.3k for a role. That same person currently earns MYR8k++ here. Talk about low-balling. Similarly, some idiot recruiter told me that my "realistic" salary in SGD is XXX which is equal to 15% upside of my MYR pay ....after conversion to SGD. So if I earned MYR10k, he was thinking that SGD4.6k (MYR10k/2.5 + 15%) is a fair price for my labour. I promptly told him off. After the above 2 real-life scenarios, I'm seriously wondering about the ethical and mental (short) comings of our southern recruiters. I guess they are looking to recruit monkeys with their peanut level pay. Now... having said that, this leads to the question "WHY" was your friend in the running for a S$4.3K role in the first place. Was it because he indicated that he was "open to ANY role" but expected the employer / recruiter to only shortlist him for higher level roles commensurate with his current earnings, or is it because the employer / recruiter screwed up their assessment of the match between the candidate and the role, etc etc etc. But that's another matter altogether. But of course,.. there are always people who low-ball. They will offer you something low even though the role is worth more, sometimes much more. It could be they expect you to negotiate and are making room... or they could be just trying their luck and capitalise on what they hope is your ignorance of the job market. |

QUOTE(tailtwist @ Sep 16 2013, 09:19 AM) Yeah yeah...No coincidence that more of this crap is being announced near Malaysia day --> BUMIPUTERA ECONOMIC AGENDA: Najib upholds 7 Wills of the 9 Malay rulers. All this just to remind you Nons who's stealing your money.., in case you forget during this Malaysia day. And this is literally the money quote --> "In pursuing Bumiputeras' interests and their unending struggles,.." This shit is going to go on forever. All in all, I like this one better. QUOTE(totti 10 @ Sep 20 2013, 10:21 PM) anybody had any exp interview with Goldman Sach? Don't forget the "s" in Sachs. They won't like it if you get the company name itself wrong repeatedly during the interview.I want to know how long their interview process would take. I have 1 interview next Friday. On the other hand, I have RBS ready to wrap up a remuneration for me, so I am wondering if I could manage to get Goldman Sach offer before I make any decision. |

QUOTE(Fiona Chin @ Sep 21 2013, 07:14 PM) Hmm, only for those jb folks I mean, if family in jb, staying at sg (nearer to work) mean less time with family. Well... if family is so important and alllll that... then then their family should also stay nearer to work. This post has been edited by seantang: Sep 21 2013, 07:57 PM |
