Non digital is probably more lasting. I have one of them. They tend to be able to withstand impact better than digital ones. However, if the scale reading is small, it makes it a bit harder to read compared to a digital.

For the digital type; i have one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ozeri-Thin-Profess...=item3a783d19b6

or

http://www.amazon.com/Ozeri-Professional-D...s/dp/B002UEZ2FC

Its an Ozeri brand and they are quite sturdy and well built. The flat and thin profile type makes it easy to store and dry. After 5 solid years, it is busted now and I am using the trusty mechanical spring scale now (you will need to find one with lower poundage range), if I have to, but rarely do I need to.

Once I learned to eyeball my food, I found the scale unnecessary, but you need one when folks are learning to gauge them. So yea, to keep answer short, Ozeri for digital scale, but hard to find In malaysia. I brought mine back from the US after college. As for mechanical or other digital scales, I'd buy anything except colorful ones made from China. God forbid what material they use, especially in colors.

So yea, if digital and you can find it: Ozeri or Salter if you can find them. Otherwise, scales are just scales, good ol mechanical scales (non cheapo generic fancy colored ones) are fine. That 5g extra here or less there aint gonna hurt anyone biggrin.gif
