cant put ramsink coz the space only fan fix the fan..... sweat.gif
for power i connect with 2 x 3pin extension cable to fan controller biggrin.gif

put some passive heatsink on the chip and blow the fan to it

good idea there

NIce there but have u though that the dusk with be accumulating inside the modem and may i mean may causes static inteference as dusk become more... shocking.gif

i wanted cool off the modem as well but cant see much alternative besides ur way there... others even create a new box for it which is time consuming and a bit dangerous >_<.
*
to solve that, actually i do cleaning twice a month for my pc and same time can clean the modem hehehehe icon_idea.gif
btw thanks for comment notworthy.gif
u can mod using ur way, but for me this also can do wink.gif

I'm noob in modding, so juz wanna ask, if u put LED, how to you connect the power to it?? Thanks.  notworthy.gif
*
thanks just wanna share icon_rolleyes.gif
that the problem, sweat.gif i think wanna share it to the power modem....
so some calculate must be made to know which resistor i must do..... sweat.gif
or any others idea for that .......???? smile.gif

QUOTE(mystvearn @ Apr 29 2006, 08:08 PM)
Any way to mod the fan without using external/additional power supply. I don't think Ramsinks work. My Aztech modem is so hot that I placed it vertically. Opening the unit does not help. There is a 2cm heat radiation from the modem. This is also my fault since I used the old aztech modem adapter on the new unit (I thought it was the same) since the modem is the same, but the new one requires less voltage. I successfully pumped in additional power and when I revert to the old modem, the modem is too weak to be used- so now staying with the old adapter and new modem.
*
actually i also dont want the external power but what can i do..... sweat.gif
still dont have the solution....that how i wanna some ideas from u all wink.gif
i wanna share power with the adapter, but i think to risky sweat.gif

for now i'm planning to add some led for make it nice.....
now in progress with calcutation process....
will update soon thumbup.gif

bro i have an idea. why dont you remove the LAN LED. than using another LED, you can tap the power from there and have a nice blinking effect on the fan while you're surfing..... thumbup.gif
*
yeah good idea notworthy.gif thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

QUOTE(ianho @ May 1 2006, 11:13 PM)
Yo shah, since ure 1 of the electronics experts here. Just wanna ask bout those modem LEDS. They're running on 5V or 12V? I wanna solder sum wires in parallel to the LED n power sum blue LEDs n a 40mm fan for my acrylic modem.
*
yeah i also wanna know power for that led......??? biggrin.gif
but i think lower than that, maybe 2v only la sweat.gif

QUOTE(Shah81 @ May 2 2006, 12:24 AM)
the modem LED should be running at around ~2V only. you can connect another LED in parallel but if you find that the LED became too dim, you'll have to remove the original modem LED. for powering your fan, i think most modem runs from a 9V adaptor. just tap the power directly from the adaptor connector on your modem boards. but please make sure the adaptor is DC. i've seen a modem use an AC adaptor with the bridge diode inside the modem.
*
actually i found out that blue n white led operated on 3v-4v..... sweat.gif
so in this case, if gonna use the LAN led as source, i think can use red, yellow or green coz this led will function at 2v only biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Shah81 @ May 2 2006, 12:37 AM)
now now, dont cry yet...there's still a way to do it. the LED mod can be done just fine. the fan will be a bit tricky. you need to find the bridge diode output and tap the power for your fan from there. very easy to do. btw what is the voltage output of your AC adaptor? maybe i can help you if you have a high res picture of the modem boards icon_idea.gif
*
so what do u think when u look this....
can the fan connect direct to it ??? sweat.gif
or must add resistor ????
my modem adaptor output = 18VAC......
so whats ur idea ??? icon_idea.gif
user posted image

QUOTE(wtm0325 @ May 2 2006, 03:17 PM)
u can try to mod the fan draws the power from usb port(5v) smile.gif
*
that a good idea, thanks notworthy.gif

QUOTE(zahri @ May 3 2006, 05:50 PM)
wow....

actually i already voided my warranty...

i opened up the casing 2 weeks after i got my modem,

but i managed to ensure the void seal looking like it was not tampered with....

i dunt know, since the modem is given by tmnut... and it is still new, but it is REally HOT !! crazy Zte Modem....

anyways...

maybe i can just find a Zte Modem which is spoilt and replace the casing.... 1 casing at stock, the other one i can mess around with biggrin.gif
*
ha ha going to mod ur modem is it ?....
so dont forget to show it later !!! thumbup.gif

ok already added LED for fan taken power from LAN LED.....
so let see...

cutting the LAN LED and connect it with resistor....
not good solder n cutting actually sweat.gif blush.gif

all done n light it up....
user posted image

zooming in...... shocking.gif
user posted image

in dark action....
user posted image

i connect the led using parallel...
i found out that the led not as bright as i expected........ doh.gif
i think coz the power for LAN led is only 2v.....
but if only using 1 led, its so bright....
so now when i surf, the led also blinking rclxm9.gif

so everyone plz give ur idea n suggestion on this mod.... thumbup.gif
hope to fix the LED bright n also the power for fan notworthy.gif

QUOTE(Shah81 @ May 4 2006, 10:07 PM)
Power for the fan:

that rounded thing is not bridge diode icon_idea.gif look at the picture below (ianho's modem). see those 2 caps that i pointed at. one of them is the power filter caps and you can tap the power for your fan from the +ve leg of that cap. just measure the voltage and the one that have the closest voltage to the output of your adaptor is the one. i think its the cap that is closest to your adaptor port.

now if the voltage is higher than 12V, you could use LM7812. this voltage regulator will reduce the voltage to 12V.

LED:

what is the value of the resistor? why dont u try connecting the LED without a resistor.

*
ok now i understand..... but if +ve to +ve leg for capasitor, where must i connect the -ve ??? sweat.gif
for info my caps is 470mF , 35v

for the LED, i only use 1 ohm, but i have try not to use resistor but still the same doh.gif .....
so what happen actually unsure.gif sad.gif
