QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jun 4 2013, 11:31 PM) Guys, things have changed with Agoda now. From now on, always choose MYR as your checkout currency as Agoda's rate is now better than ever! And you will save even more if you have MBB2 AMEX. And because your card will be billed in MYR, you do not have to worry about AMEX's high foreign exchange rate! I have just booked a room through the Maybank Agoda promotion landing page, paid with my MBB2 AMEX, got 7% off + about 2.5% (5x TP) + redeemed 12,500 Agoda rewards points (equivalent to USD25). Save myself quite some money. That's what I calculated previously... next hotel will be booked in MYR. I assume AMEX will be charged on the weekends to get 5X TreatsPoints |

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Jun 5 2013, 12:47 AM) No problem.QUOTE(bearbear @ Jun 5 2013, 12:48 AM) Eh, quite a surprise that AMEX Gold entitles for 7% off too. A good news nonetheless.QUOTE(ronnie @ Jun 5 2013, 08:10 AM) That's what I calculated previously... next hotel will be booked in MYR. This wasn't the case just not so long ago. Last time you'll be shown a very competitive exchange rate (assuming you choose to see the rate in MYR all the way to the final checkout page) which led you to believe that to choose to be billed in MYR is better. But it was bogus and you'll realize after the transaction has gone through that Agoda's exchange rate is higher and it was better to choose USD and let your bank do the conversion. (Can refer to my posts and also Cempedak's in the previous thread)I assume AMEX will be charged on the weekends to get 5X TreatsPoints Anyway, when doing the booking in MYR, Agoda's exchange rate for the x% bank discount + Agoda Rewards Points redemption is tiny bit higher than remaining balance you have to pay. Refer below. - x% bank discount, Agoda's exchange rate is RM3.1590 - Agoda Rewards Points, USD25 = RM78.97, the rate is RM3.1588 - Final Total Due, Agoda's exchange rate is RM3.0870 Considering you can get 5xTP when booking with your MBB2 AMEX, the exchange rate difference is therefore immaterial. Besides, RM3.0870=USD1 is about the same as the cash rate you can get from money changer now. So i'd say Agoda's rate is quite good. This post has been edited by MilesAndMore: Jun 5 2013, 09:11 AM |

Miles - if my VI gets 7% then better to use it over MBB2 AMEX right? But then again USD can shoot up when Agoda post the transaction. f USD weaken then I save more |

Anyway, i think MBB2 AMEX is still better despite higher exchange rate is used for the bank discount and also rewards points redemption.Oh, do you still get 5xTP for your VI if you choose to be billed in MYR on Agoda ? |

Is it lower or about the same as regular MBB VISA/MC ? Because this Agoda's MYR rate is very close to what we get from MBB VISA/MC or the street money changers. But as you said, if USD suddenly drops, then you probably can save a bit more with your VI. Anyhow, i'd still recommend MBB2 AMEX though QUOTE(bearbear @ Jun 5 2013, 09:59 AM) I only received the email like about 5 minutes after i booked my room through Agoda last night but luckily Agoda is still cheaper for the room i just booked last night QUOTE(pspfan @ Jun 5 2013, 10:23 AM) for cheaper rooms u can always log into hotelclub.com/cimb but there's no loyalty points thingy. during payment just use your MBB VI. ive tried it a couple of times and it works. as for the login(cimb vs card no pls google for it) The HotelClub has some sort of collaboration with VISA but the room rate is not always the cheapest out there. I always check with a few online hotel reservation websites before i book one and so far Agoda is consistently cheaper than other online hotel reservation portals especially after factoring in the 5%-7% bank discount. This post has been edited by MilesAndMore: Jun 5 2013, 10:28 AM |

Hey guys,
I swipe my amex card on 1st june (last saturday) thinking that statement always ended on the last day of the month. however, i just checked my may statement, and the cycle ended on june 2nd. does that mean statement cycle only starts on 1st business day of the month? and will it still get calculated for my weekend rebate for june? (because for some transactions on 1st june, the posting date was 3rd june....) |

Haha interesting proposal sir My ex-boss use to drive a 5L company car, road tax more than RM30K! Yeah, last time we did pay RM30k for the car roadtax as we registered the car under company (to avoid IRB as we bought it in cash) But now cannot tahan then decide to change it to individual name (RM20k discount on road tax every year I had called myeg on this issue and they will get back to me in due course. |
