i have been trying to run prime95 and monitor using realtemp on my e3-1230v2. the rated frequency should be 3.3Ghz and turbo up to 3.7Ghz. during the prime95 blend test, i noticed that the cpu is only stressed until 2.9Ghz.

any suggestions or comments on this? or is there a better cpu stress test program for xeon processors?

It heats up the CPU like no other program

i have tried running the intel burn test, still the maxed core freq is 2.9GHz..

then i also found out that instead of 4 cores, hwinfo64 only detected 2 cores on my cpu:

try go msconfig there to force boot with 4 cores.

That's really odd. Have tried other similar software like core temp or cpuz to see if they can detect the cpu cores?
From what I can see is the cpu clock ratio in your bios seems has beeen changed to 29 instead of 33. Try set to

Use CPU-Z as CPU Speed Monitoring Software,
Use HWMonitor or Speccy to monitor the temperature.

Use IntelBurnTest or Prime95(max heat/blend) to stress your CPU.

These programs are "standard".

Also, try reseting your Motherboard's BIOS. Or reseat the CPU completely.

i have tried but not able to change. probably due to a locked cpu?

I have just flashed a new BIOS but still no change. will try to reseat the CPU as soon as possible. but could this be the problem? if CPU is seated wrongly should not be able to start at all vert

3.30GHz is standard for Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1230 v2.

With Turbo Boost(TB), it can fly to 3.70GHz max.
But, TB doesn't mean all CORES will run to that GHz at a time. Some might be 3.50GHz, some might be 3.63GHz, etc.
So, round up, it might not be 3.70GHz. It's more like a DYNAMIC Boosting(not static).

does flashing a new bios have same effect of resetting bios? might as well try all together and hope for the best

i got worried because running Intel Burn Test @ Very High and Prime95 @ Blend Test only got me to 2.9Ghz max. and after i check using CPU-Z it shows only 2cores/4threads.

i dont mind if it achieves 3.5Ghz or 3.7Ghz after TB, but 2.9Ghz on 100% load?! its kinda freakish

well, i just discovered the solution though. turns out the msconfig thing should be left unchecked, and voila, my cores returned!!


last time i set it at 4 and somehow the option for 4,5,7,8 got removed. after unchecked it and restarted, the option up to processors returned.
