Be careful when polishing though, if never done before you might actually burn the paint and make it worse. Polish also have some grades from very soft to quite harsh which can remove paint if pressed hard.

If minor surface scratch on the clear coat only/not yet taking off the paint, then can still remove/mask with polish then wax, but if paint already off, then cannot remove the scratch.
