How much your budget?  unsure.gif

i am pointing out that there are hostel options for travellers in HK (under RM200), but it is difficult to find a similar price room in macau (with acceptable review)

I'm travelling with mixed group with youngest just 10 years old up to old lady of age 76, so need clean and decent rooms with attached bathroom.
The are many budge hotels in Macau peninsula but how long does it take to reach the airport and to go to the island for signt-seeing ? From the map, the airport is on the island and will I get delayed cos of traffic jam on the bridge liking macau peninsula to the island - I'm scared to missed the flight back home due to jam on the bridge ( like Penang Bridge).
*
What is your budget for rooms per night? It is difficult to get a clean budget hotel in Macau as most are shabby looking (from trip advisor). Try looking at Sintra, Regency or Taipa Square to see if they fit your budget, around 260-300 per night.

To transfer from mainland to island (taipa), you can rely on the free shuttle or simply grab a taxi. They charge MOP15 for the 1st 1600 meters and add MOP1.50 for every 230 m there after. For example, Grand Lisboa to Altira fare is around MOP35.

The jam is not as heavy as Penang or KL. Altira to airport during morning rush hour takes around 20 mins, MOP42.

Macau has so many casinos. What FOC drinks are available inside ? Any FOC food/tidbits also ?
Are the drinks from vending machines where U can serve yourself ? Can U fill up drinks (like say coke) in a bottle to drink outside the casino ?
*
Good question. In my previous trips, you can see soft drinks and tea/coffee served openly, on the cart, offered to you at most of the famous casinos. My recent trip, however, you can only see plain water in a bottle. You need to order other drinks from the waiter/waitress (but maybe only for those seated on a gaming table).

If this is the case, it's sucks. In S'pore casinos, U can just get free-flow of Milo, Nascafe, soft-drinks, etc either from the vandor-machine staff or serve yourself if she is not there. Which casino did U go to to get only plain water ?
*
You can easily get bottled plain water in places like venetian, galaxy, cod, grand lisboa

Even the dress code entering Macau casinos are so relaxing.. When we still need to wear Batiks & proper dress code to Genting Casinos in the early 90's.. I entered Lisboa casino (The largest on at that time) just wearing round T-shirt and sport shoe blush.gif  biggrin.gif ..That time, The Genting casinos looks & feel much more grand than Lisboa. Ony recent years, with more & more casinos in Macau, you get the same grand feeling there but the dressing code in Macau still as simple as last time..  rclxms.gif

Haha.. well true also.. During the early 90's, the tallest buiding in Macau is just beside the Lisboa casino i.e that Bank of China. Infact Macau ppl that time more accomodating to China's chinese rather than Hong Kong eventhough HK returned to China slightly earlier. And between the 2 buildings, there is the big roundabout and the famus Macau bridge (The only one) to Taipa island. No airport yet that time and Taipa island really hulu place and less populated.

Furthermore you can't see any surrounding tall buidings opposite Macau City which is right now - Zhuhai New City. Last time opposite side just jungles! And I din know it's China..  blush.gif ..Fast forward during my visit in 2008.. darn.. Those Zhuhai jungle areas are now mostly highrises and even more & grand than Macau City

See whether I can find some of the old Macau photos and I scan & share here later  rclxms.gif

The time when you went there, i think macau still controlled by kongsi gelap cool2.gif

aiyo, zhuhai building some copycats one..very funny

now they are planning to develop another island which is near to macau and zhuhai, non casino type of entertainment

Surely some of the casinos offer free-flow coffee and soft-drinks like in Genting Highlands and the 2 casinos in S'pore ? Else how could they be so stingy - afterall Macau do 6 times more business vs Las Vargas
*
I kid you not. I asked my acquaintance who are working there, they said have to request for other drinks. Since I am not playing or seated on any table, I didnt ask for any. Sad. Grand Lisboa, Galaxy, Venetian, COD, cotaicentral confirm don't have dy. Didn't check Ponte 16, wynns, MGM and the rest.

I'm taking the earliest flight to Macau and expected to reach Macau at 10.15am. Since I can only check-in at 2pm (Golden Crown China Hotel), can I leave my luggage at the reception to go sight-seeing 1st and check-in later ? If yes, are there any charges ?
*
Depends on the hotel, usually no charges. I have checked with Grand lisboa, Galaxy and Venetian, they have 24 hours free luggage storage.

Where can I get cheap food in Macau ? I still can't find any while googling. Seems so much more expensive vs KL - see some reviews saying USD$10 for a meal is real cheap. Where do the locals there eat ? Don't they have cheap hawker food like in KL where a bowl of noodles cost just RM5 or a plate of "chap fan" or chicken rice for RM5 ?

Where can I buy fresh fruits cheap like oranges or apples ? What are the prices ?

Do they have hypermarkets like Tasco, Carrefour ?
*
You can expect to spend at least HKD30 for a bowl of noodle. They don't have hawker food court like us here. Most will be in a proper shop. YOu can walk along the road and come across various restaurants that the locals go. Honestly, they taste better than those promoted in blogs.

They dont have those branded hypermarkets either but you can buy fruits at the markets or some small marts.

anyone have any suggestions on budget hotels? is it safe for a lady travelling alone there?

Yes, I would say it is generally very safe. Common sense should prevail in any case though..eg. avoid back alley at nights, etc..

I haven't got the chance to stay at Grand Hyatt yet but I have tried Venetian, Conrad and Sheraton. Conrad tops the list. According to my friend, Four Seasons is even better. Looking at Grand Hyatt price range, i think it will be among the top too at cotai strip.

Any free hotel shuttle bus to Macau Giant Panda Pavilion ?
*
At this moment, no. Only taxi or normal bus. My suggestion is to take the bus to the main Lord Stow's bakery at Coloane, and on the return trip, drop by at the Panda Pavi.

Just came back from Macau last nite. Can find plenty of eating places selling food quite cheap but not near the casinos/hotels, e.g. there a a Chinese supermarket chain stores which sell local stuff but this chain also sells chap fan - 2 meat plus 1 vegi with soup cost just MOP23 and the portion is really big that the 5 of us just need to pack 3 packets and share among ourselves.. U can find places with benches and tables to eat your meal, means ave cost per pax only about MOP14 or only about RM5.60. We can aslo find a MeDonald which sells chichen/double beef burger for just MOP9... if U buy the same item in the hotels/casinos cost like MPM29.
There are also plenty of small family food shops...with just table/chairs for 5-6 customers around the ruins of Senado square selling noodles/rice meal for around MOP22.
From the comments here with gives an over-price estimate of meal cost...I think can't even spend 1/2 of my MOP/HK money.... as I thought food was like 3X more expensive vs here in KL...but some..like McD even cheaper vs KL.
*
You found a good place biggrin.gif But their McD is cheaper? hmm.gif
