hi guys juz want to know yr opinion on this question. if a guy addresses a particular close female friend with pet names like baby, dear, darling etc, is it justifiable for the gf to be angry or annoyed (unless he is calling every close female friend with pet names then I personally see there is nothing wrong with that) because personally I understand that such pet names do mean something or show there is some intimacy between them. further to that, it is rather inappropriate and disrespectful and can cause lots of misunderstanding (leading her on) to his close female friend too. opinions please thanks This post has been edited by vivienne85: May 17 2013, 07:28 PM

It really depends on the context and how their relationship really is. If someone uses it once in a while sarcastically or jokingly its fine. However if the person doesn't use such intimate names at all for anyone else but uses it on someone who isn't his partner, its a little fishy.
That's why you also have to see how their relationship really is. Are they perhaps actually attracted to each other, but denying or not pursuing it for some reason? If that's the case, its just a timebomb waiting to explode. Otherwise, its probably fine.

There are a few friends I call those names, but we both know we're just friends and there's nothing special. I think it's like what silverhawk said, it's contextual

err,my guy friend always call me with pet names (except sayang ).but he is my very close friend.we are like siblings,so i dont find any problem with that.this is really dependent on how you think/feel on that person.
