Yes, that's what I always do. I buy something that I am comfortable with and use it for a couple of years. That's why I bought the Lumia 620. I tend to avoid buying flagships because I also know that this year's flagship may be a just a cheap normal phone in a year or two.
So no point chasing flagships. Just be patient and everything would drop in price, because that has always been the case for all technological products. Those who always chase flagships would always become disappointed very fast because the rate of new releases are becoming more frequent due to fierce competition.
On the hand, I think the Lumia 1020 is a great phone and I hope that in one or two years time, I can get a new phone just like that, for half its current price.
