QUOTE(mwtang @ Sep 9 2013, 09:10 AM)
1520 won't come close to note 3 . Nevertheless both serve diff market segment
*
You are correct.
What I meant earlier is 1520 is a better selection to use to compete with Note 3, rather than 1020.
As you know, 1520 has huge FHD, Quad Core, 20MP.

QUOTE(s7ran9er @ Sep 9 2013, 09:24 AM)
It's really all about hype.

Yesterday I was hiking on one of the hill, the place was beautiful during sun rise. At there, some of the folks are carrying a smartphone, most of them don't really how to use their phones to shoot nor tweak the settings, I'm puzzled when they even asked me to how to review the photos.

Now, I don't blame them, they just need a reliable smartphone that is easy to use. Here, I have demonstrated a Nokia phone to them on the ability to hold the shutter button to launch the camera, take a shot (you should see some of their faces!), review the picture by swiping right. JOB DONE! Some people might even think that I'm using an actual camera.  laugh.gif

So, which is why I have mentioned a few times on Lumia being a practical shooter phone.
*
Which Lumia you are using?

QUOTE(s7ran9er @ Sep 9 2013, 09:44 AM)
Oh here comes my rant,

Nokia Pro Cam & Default Cam
This camera app has no "last settings" meaning you have to set the settings again if you've close the app and there's no auto maximum iso settings available in both the cameras, ISO 3200 is not really useful.
*
QUOTE(jonchai @ Sep 9 2013, 09:59 AM)
Remember how WP7 didn't have a "save camera settings" when it started? We're seeing the same thing now. Hopefully it gets updated, but of course, since I don't take picture of the same view over and over again, I figure I need not rant about it  smile.gif
*
I believe in jonchai comment that future update will allow Save Camera Settings.

QUOTE(jonchai @ Sep 9 2013, 09:54 AM)
I haven't had time to pay attention to Note 3's release. If possible, could you please sum it up for me in a tl;dr version? Wanna know what's so amazing about it ... Thanks  biggrin.gif
*
Sorry, I only google here and there.
Honestly, I do not have a full concepts in my mind as well.
Hence, I do not think I am the right person to state a summary of Note3's features.

QUOTE(jonchai @ Sep 9 2013, 09:57 AM)
In order to fix the lag, they really need an image processor (separate from the main CPU) that's on its own, something which WP does not support at the moment. Even with quad core, the lag still can't be fixed. As for SD, I can still live without it  smile.gif
*
So am I, I can live without SD.
Comparing Note 3 or other Smartphone including iPhone, I in love with Nokia PolyCarbonate design especially Lumia 1020 - Matte Yellow!

Mundane = boring ....

Boring features? I guess he meant necessary and basic features.

Like call blocking, sms blocking, rotation lock (I want this very much, everytime I tried to show a photo to people, it'd rotate) ... stuff like that
*
Ah, I see.

Just to share, Call/SMS Blocking are available through Amber update.
I just got mine last 2 nights for my L620.

While for Rotation-Lock, Notification-Center and other (unkown) Mundane features are coming soon in GDDR3 and also upcoming WP OS (Q1 2014).

QUOTE(Fhaarkas @ Sep 9 2013, 11:22 AM)
Just going along with your numbering scheme here.  wink.gif

1. But they're certainly not marketing it as such, and IMO they shouldn't be. Here's a phone with breakthrough technology of the future that everyone should be drooling about, with 4-second lag between taking pictures. WHY THE HELL DOES IT HAVE A 4-SECOND LAG? If I want to spend RM2k+ on a phone, I want my experience to be Flawless™.

2. That's their problem to solve. A half-assed solution is half-assed. A defeatist view on it won't help. Have they done everything in their power to solve it? If they have they should learn a thing or two about efficiency from those developers in ex-Soviet countries. (see: http://arstechnica.com/business/2013/09/skypes-secrets/)

3. There's no 4G reception in Taman Negara to upload those 5 GB videos (oh, my data charge!). Cloud storage may be a reasonable solution in NA and Europe, but the rest of the world doesn't care and their infrastructure is just not feasible yet. That's my biggest gripe with MSFT - they're too NA-centric and ignorant about the rest of the world. If you want to go up against Google, then you better act like it. Google knows how to please the average Joe, Microsoft is still a clueless nerd he was from 20 years ago.

GDR3 only took them what, 2 years?  doh.gif And notification center is only coming with WP8.1, in Q1 2014. Seriously I think MSFT is trying too hard to 're-invent' things. They should just do what they've been doing for the past 30 years - steal someone's idea and make money off it. Sorry that I sound like a MS hater but I'm not, really. I'm a fan of theirs and I want to see them succeed and they can't succeed if they're being a p*ssy like this.

I like that in the old days they'd just take somebody's technology and solutions and leave them to rot. They're good at that, they should stick to doing that. I mean, what the f[un] does nobody in WP team ever use an iPhone, Android, Symbian or even their own WM? Are they that conceited now? I hope Elop would slap some of these slackers out of their sleep and get them to work.
*
Lol. I like the way you trademarked your FLAWLESS.

I understood every bit of your remarks over Microsoft on Windows Phone development.
I believe we all here are.
But do give them a tiny understanding that developing Windows Phone for Mobile Network is quite unique to them, comparing to their decade of experience in Computer OS where Hardware do not hook up with Mobile Network around the globe. Also, I believe with the latest acquisition of Nokia Hardware and its Team. I'm sure this lapse in planning will be reduce dramatically. Windows Phone team just do not understand the complexity of Mobile in other part of the world as mentioned in previous news, until Nokia told them so.

I believe they were being ignorant at first for these Mundane features.

Personally, I do not seek Flawless in my every purchase as Flawless when using, no matter what machine/equipment/materials and how expensive they are. I would set an expectation first and think it over and over before my purchase.

This is because I used to work in Official Service Center as Customer Service Assistant, I truly understood the feeling that when Consumer purchase a mobile, they expect it to work especially consumer who purchase expensive or flagship phone, they expect it work flawlessly as advertised in those TV or Review. I had saw many that their expectation was shattered with anger, sadness and negative emotion as the phone got problem (hardware) right after 1-2 weeks being used. They had to wait for 1-2 months for new spare parts come.
Hence, from these extension experience, I told myself that I will never buy an expensive phone as this will not naturally allow myself to set my expectation high.

FYI, I still in dilemma to purchase L1020. If I purchase, it is my first phone that cost more than RM1,000.

QUOTE(Fhaarkas @ Sep 9 2013, 12:48 PM)
Yeah I have high hope that Nokia and Elop will bring some much-needed urgency and Actual F[un]ing Clue™ to the WP team. Much of my long rant is actually about things they have already fixed or are setting to fix but you have to excuse me if I say their track record is none too impressive and if they don't hit the top gear soon they're gonna be dead in the water.

Also, I'm just playing devil's advocate. Yeah consumers shouldn't expect to have a flawless experience even from a top-end phone but if they're selling a phone in the price bracket of an iPhone or high-end-Android-priced-RM2k+-whatever-it-is, the least they could do is try to cover up a very, very glaring issue. You can't just bank on your 41MP sensor alone and hope the average consumer would forgive your sub-par usage experience. Unless all those millions spent in R&D and marketing is only to appease the few nerds who actually care about the camera, right now L1020 looks more like a test phone for lab rats instead of an All-Glorious Flagship phone.

Fhaarkas,
True, sometimes I felt really burn that the OS is still half-baked after years of development.
Partly due to this, I wouldn't normally explain to one about WP as an alternative in today's Mobile industry unless he or she is willing to listen or is looking to understand the Current.

To Other Readers,
Fhaarkas isn't trying to rant or troll about negativity of WP.
He share the similar love and passion about WP like the rest of us here. He may use some hard words to express his thought as well as the Inconvenience Truth of current WP.
Anyone has the right to show their love in some form in their own way, this is just his way.

Anyway, about Orientation Lock
I just remember that it is really weird that Windows RT got this feature way earlier (I presumed since released) but Windows Phone 'No'. I thought Windows RT share quite similar coding or .... similar in deep form.

QUOTE(arbelnox @ Sep 9 2013, 02:55 PM)
I don't know bro... Lumia 920 the first Windows Phone 8 was released back in September 2012 (source: GSMARENA), so that makes it only a year old phone (Not counting from Malaysia release), and we already have like 2 updates (GDR 1 and GDR 2) in a year, not including about a couple more updates from Nokia, so I don't think that they are updating the OS really slow or anything. At least better than my android phone which maybe only eligible for 1 update only? Cos the OEM just dump the previous FLAGSHIP's update after new FLAGSHIP coming up.

Yes, I do understand your rant about those basic features are losing as for current smartphone's standard, but I think they are just trying to introduce new technologies (which mostly beneficial to their own regime thanks to our slow progress in infrastructure), but ended up back fired cos the mass just couldn't accept their way of trying implementing new solution (aka Cloud Solution - a reason why SD card is not intended in WP 7.0). Nevertheless, their email attachment sucks whole time.
*
You got a point there.

Beside the Email Attachment, I have a related issue but not so crucial, kinda annoying though.
That is Cannot Rename Photo, except those uploaded to Skydrive.

When you attached those Photo which you took with your Windows Phone, it would renamed according to some arrangement. Hence when attached to email, the filename will be exactly the same and cannot be edit. Not professional, for me.

Ai yo, mwtang. This is really killing me leh. All those news, bit by bit.

Still, glad that you shared such a good news.
Even Minor, I believe at least got RM100 lower.
Kinda weird to revise a few tenth.

Alright. Alright.
I understand your position and won't force you.

By the way since you may have inside information, can you help check whether the Release of L1020 is only in Nokia Store or Nationwide Sales Channel such as through Online Superbuy.my?
You could let me know the answer on the same day, you let us know the RRP.

Bcoz I won't be in KL during the announcement.
How great if it is available in Nokia Store KL Area on this coming weekend!

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 9 2013, 05:45 PM)
Nonetheless, their deep Social Networks Integration is really good and there're quite a lot of good things they've done, but as others pointed out, some features, especially the "common" ones they didn't include, is simply... I don't know what to say... WP7 really lacks a lot of things, it's like they have totally NO experience in mobile OS, but actually MS have experience with Windows Mobile OS.
Moreover, in WP7, the contacts have limitation and looking at the restrictions, it seems like a database design issue; how could this be? Microsoft? A company which provides Microsoft Access and SQL Server? A company which provides database design courses?

Seriously, let's calm down and think for a moment.... if Windows Phone provides those "common" functions/features. They could've gain better FIRST impression (FIRST Impression is important) and done MUCH better.
WP7
Bluetooth file sending, that's just a simple features.
External Storage, Mass-Storage, another simple and basic feature for 'smartphones'
Relies on Zune....
But somehow they follow Apple's footsteps. Did you see that? iOS/iPhone was practically an iPod Touch with Phone Function and relies on iTunes.
*
Thanks for the headup.
I had completely forgot about Windows Mobile.

Now, there is even less excuse for Microsoft's slow performance.

eh, that day boss say got minor reduction ? I revise my predicted RRP to MYR2399.
Based on estimated 5S and 5C pricing.

p/s: who gets it right, boss mwtang will give a free Lumia 1020  tongue.gif
*
Lol. That's a good idea for Correct Guess and Get free Lumia 1020.

If really RM2,499, I won't be getting one to cover my Weddings and thereafter.
Too expensive, I believe.
1,000 RM difference, compare to L920 and L925 RM1,4xx Range, offering at Superbuy.my

my thoughts, in terms of camera phones 1020 is among the top up there. the only element missing is still the content to compliment its hardware features.

guess u can't have the best of both world.
*
Thanks mwtang for your additional hint.

You are right about that.
But I wouldn't mind the missing content that many see it as disadvantage as I am neither an Instagram-lover nor Apps lover.

Primarily, I craze about its Camera's result.

I still can accept RM2,199 though not more than that.

Deep inside my heart, I felt over RM2K is expensive but I so want that phone.

Perhaps in the mean time, I got myself a L920.

Impossible. Will be at least RM 2299.00
But then, unless they bundled with extra free gift like camera grip or wireless charging car holder, I will hold until Christmas cos by then there should be little price adjustment or extra bundled stuff for the Christmas event while waiting to see the news for upcoming Lumia with next gen chasis.

As of now, as much as I love L1020, L920 still serve me wonderfully smile.gif
*
If RM2,299 and bundled with Camera Grip,
I still feel worth it.

I do hope this Bundle Offer not just available during that day event. It is so unfair to all other Malaysia Nokian who could not attend or/and do not wish to queue to take up the offer during the Event.
