April 25, 2006 - In the ongoing rivalry between the DS and PSP camps, PSP fans have long flaunted their handheld's media capabilities as a huge difference between the PSP and DS. The DS has been somewhat lacking in picture, video, and music playback for quite some time. Fortunately for DS fans, Datel has set out to change all that.

Announced just a few days ago, Datel's MAX Media Player for the Nintendo DS is a 4 GB hard drive unit that pops into the DS's GBA cartridge slot. A fully-featured media browser is built into the device, and when connected is able to launch MP3s, JPEGs, and videos on the DS screens.

The device can connect to PCs via USB for file transfer, and bundled software will format videos and images to fit the DS screen. 4GB is a lot of storage space for video compressed to DS size, enough for 10 full-length movies according to Datel. Thanks to some recent advances in DS hacking circles, Datel is even including software that will be able to launch applications on the DS, allowing for the possibility of some retro-emulation action.

The Max Media Player should be available now, and will retail for $189.99.

we dont even have enough time to play all the fantastic games the DS has to offer.

talk about using it to watch movies and listen to music. hehee! might as well use the time to squeeze more brain juice by pulling our hair out playing brain age

I think this has been posted before, the main drawbacks of this device is that it's very bulky once you attach it onto your DS. Not to mention it's very pricey, let's see $189.99= around RM730.

I second that, I buy my DS (and DS Lite) just to play games. It is better to buy a PSP for your media (videos, images) needs (I really want it though cry.gif )

Aren't there other media storage devices that's cheaper? RM700+ is very steep. We could've gotten another psp or DS already... happy.gif

Suet, CChan here. Didn't know you're a LYN forumer as well!

Yep, it's steep. I'd rather get a PSP with that price. =/ Plus DS screens are actually a little too small to play any videos, but better than nothing. ;P

xivanx2 here, ly4444's partner in crime ?
remember us ? tongue.gif

sc-MiniSD rm250?
miniSD 1GB rm130

so to match 4gig we'll need 4 SD cards tongue.gif

rm250+130x4 = 770

but at least it won't be so bulky the mini SD can be used on other Gadgets and with the SC it runs more stuff tongue.gif
