I just checked XDA and I got the affected chip
QUOTE Using the EMMC check app from play, you can see if your eMMC is the VTU00M 0XF1 (affected chip). Gonna read more how to fix this.. edit: Ok I'm safe for now as I have 4.1.2 stock "Stock: All 4.1.2 official releases (stock) include a Kernel, bootloader and recovery with the Update 7 "Fixes" (or newer) applied. If you have 4.1.2, officially consider yourself "Safe". This post has been edited by neato4u: Jun 18 2013, 09:08 PM |

QUOTE(mtxx @ Jun 18 2013, 09:08 PM) Well on XDA said stock 4.1.2 is okay because it have the updated kernels and all..I'm craving for CUSTOM ROM (I'm a hardcore flasher). Any good custom ROM with multiwindow support (just noting, not sure if all custom ROMs have this) that you guys used for your daily driver? |

QUOTE(dark_axl21 @ Jun 18 2013, 10:03 PM) I also read that you need both the stock recovery and kernel installed for it to work properly, or a custom kernel and recovery built from the updated sources. Latest Perseus Kernel and PhilZ Recovery are examples I believe so.So it is possible to "patch" the problem? Basically those with affected chips (same like me) still have hope. Those who stayed stock and updated to 4.1.2 stock are safe from this time bomb. I'm not quite sure about flashing custom ROMs and kernels yet until I understand this fully. Well, at least stock ROM may be rooted which doesn't affect or re-ticker the bomb. Later gonna root - feel so limited without it |

QUOTE(YouDontKnowMyName @ Jun 20 2013, 02:06 PM) Yes. I'm on 4.1.2 XXEMC2 stock. This multiwindow is damn syok EXTENDED BATTERY 3600MAH I recently bought a 3600mah extended battery from brotan store (LYN) for my S3. Although it printed 4000mah on the battery, I dunno if this is true or not. Used battery monitor and it shows max is 4255mV min is 3459mV Can anyone confirm this? BATTERY LIFE I wanna ask forumers how your stock battery life with stock ROM is? I tested mine STOCK BATTERY can get roughly around 13hrs with 3G data turned on all the time (with some places goes into wifi mode). Screen on around 2-3hrs. With the EXTENDED BATTERY 4000mah printed, I got around 16hrs 33m (data turned on all the time with some places wifi). Screen on around 5hrs 2minutes. Is this good? I believe my extended should have more life.. maybe I should flash custom ROM and do wipe battery stats? |

QUOTE(salimbest83 @ Jun 20 2013, 11:03 PM) 16h with 5h screen time sound great. Hi salimbest83. how much u got it bro? need to change back cover / can use back normal case or not? Really? good figure? Hmmm maybe I'm expecting too much then.. I got it for RM59. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2459395&hl= Yes need to change back case. A bit fatter but I like it. More grip for me. Too bad the batt doesn't have NFC but I don't use it anyway. I didn't pay attention when ordering.. If 3000mah then should be around 40% more capacity than stock.. so those figures are okay I guess. BUT I really think I can squeeze more once I got custom ROM flashed in.. QUOTE(joytest @ Jun 21 2013, 12:21 AM) All current lithium batteries will show max voltage of 4200mV (ie 4.2V) to low of 3400mV (3.4V) to allow it to operate your phone. Thanks. Capacity testing will need some kind of run test to determine, and then calculate it. This thread has good info: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2793169 WOW that is a darn detailed DIY check capacity thread.. Guess I'll skip it and just flash custom ROM to get more uptime hehehe.. Nova battery tester in Google play claims can check real mah too. But the recent update have a lot of FC. |

QUOTE(XeactorZ @ Jun 21 2013, 01:51 AM) use wifi direct more than NFC sot eh 3k mah battery life good compare with original 2.1k ? yet, need to use its cover eh ? and means the phone is bulkier right ? and mine s3 is affected unit, but I using new bootloader, so nothing to worry Need to use cover, a bit fatter than normal.. but i think worth it. Another option is to buy those flip case like with powerbank built in. When you ran out of battery just turn it on and it will charge the s3. That one I checked cost RM100. Capacity is like 2600 - 3000mah. So the stock bat 2100mah + another 2600mah like that lor. However i tried using flip case before.. it just kacau me from using the phone. Protection is good tho.. ![]() http://www.mudah.my/Samsung+Galaxy+SIII+S3...er-22029182.htm new bootloader? Can you explain a bit? I'm not new in flashing but new with S3. Which one should I use? xda link? |

I'm getting around 8hrs usage with stock battery running 4.1.2 stock with 3g data and wifi constantly on.
Screen on time around 1hrs plus .. Is this normal? Am considering custom ROM but unsure which one that gives good battery life. |

I can see your wifi is turned on.. If still terok I'm thinking of factory resetting the device.. dunno if any 3rd party apps kacauing or not. By the way, I don't think the screenshot you provided is the 'average' usage of the S3. I believe this is far by the 'best' battery life you have ever achieved instead. True? QUOTE(silverchain @ Jun 25 2013, 08:49 PM) Ya i DL my omega from that site. Unfortunately, i havent install it. Still abit paranoid cuz 1st time lol yeah me too. I'm still stock and rooted a few days ago Will update again cheers I came from a single core phone (well a dual core most recent) user, but this S3 just blew me away. Especially with it's multiwindow and motion feature like swipe to snapshot and stay awake and smart display option.. I wouldn't flash custom ROM if my battery life were better.. which I think it should. Anyway, remember to do a nandroid backup! (Dunno if you guys still call it nandroid hahaha). I did mine when I first got the phone. At least can restore if something went wrong somewhere. Hopefully got time and mood to flash Omega tomorrow. I found this useful post by gnarg @ XDA QUOTE Why don't you flash Omega v46..? it works flawlessly on my S3. The original post is here if you want that attached file and link to XXUFME7Boot into recovery, do a full wipe/factory reset. Power off phone. Boot into download mode and flash XXUFME7 with Odin, let phone boot up and configure the phone. Check if WiFi and LTE is present and working. If not working, flash again and again until it works. Turn off phone. Boot into download mode and flash Philz Touch recovery with Odin...attached zip. Unzip and flash tar.md5 file. Boot into recovery and flash Omega v46. Download Omega v46 here >>> http://goo.gl/5KtLq (torrent). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...63656&page=5857 |

QUOTE(silverchain @ Jun 25 2013, 09:13 PM) I try to follow this guy tutorial. Almost similar method only thing he used titanium to backup app and CWM just like what i did. Hehe, now gonna try it. Wish me luck Wow you flashing now? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuELTbfrH_U All the best bro. Please take some screenshot afterwards and post it here. Plus share your experience if Omega is good. I am checking out UltimaROM ... seems the thread is more user friendly for newbie. Have youtube on how to flash rom, a simple step by step instruction, plus youtube user reviews of the ROMs as well. Seemed much more simpler than Omega. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911572 |
