Some of us do not have the touchscreen issue out-of-box, so it doesn't matter for you whether you have the latest build or not. Only small percentage of the users are having this issue and updates do not reflect any changes yet but some users are reporting this issue gets fixed in the latest update(JSS15R), just to make sure he has updated to latest build, if problem still persists, he can choose either send back for RMA and hope to get a perfect unit in return or keep it until Google fix it.

You can consider to change kernel if you wish to improve your battery life.

Flashing kernel is same as flashing custom rom because now kernel comes with zip installation method too.

And about your performance issue, I think maybe it's chrome issue because sometimes chrome behaves like this when many tabs are opened, firefox is smooth all the way, you can try out other browsers and see if it is chrome's issue.

Just bought nexus 7 LTE 32gb last few days.
Been find out if place on flat surface like table, the touch screen become non sensitive like srcoll down quick menu from upper right on wifi,brightness control,have to touch few time to access. but when the device hold on hand,the problem mention gone. am i get the faulty set?

Thanks so much for your info, Benny. At the moment, I don't have any other reason to root except for maybe using Titanium Backup (which I hope works on stock recovery - I have not done enough research on this point yet, admittedly) or backup using the Toolkit and perhaps modifying the touchscreen drivers as per that "famous" thread over at XDA. But holding out on that for the moment (I have touchscreen problems but not too serious for me yet) and see whether the upcoming KitKat release improves anything. At moment, I am quite happy with the stock ROM until I get bored with it, I guess.

I can usually wait for OTA updates unless there was something ultra seriously bad with the current firmware. In this sense, I must say I am rather "lazy" and OTA just seems to be more convenient as the download sort of happens by itself directly to the device in the background and I don't have to really do anything extra.

My previous N7 was rooted n with CWM installed.  I hard brick it n it only can boot into CWM recovery mode only. Selecting restart only boot it back to CWM recovery. Pressing hard buttons unable to boot even into fast boot mode.
I sent in to Skudai JB Asus center n was told motherboard need to be replaced. Was surprised it was free n Tablet even recorded as rooted w CWM installed. Three weeks later got a call that technician screw up changing motherboard n was told to send in original box w accessories to exchange for a brand new sealed set. Well i did get a brand new sealed set.
In fact many previous N7 users had reported speakers change FOC even with the tablets rooted

anyone knows if there are there any Asus authorized shops in JB that is selling Nexus 7 LTE?  After reading about the multitouch issue, think better to buy in person and test out the tablet before leaving the shop...
