To root, I need to downgrade to 4.1.2 (factory reset), then use DooMLoRD's tool?
After that can update OTA to 4.4.2 while still keeping root?

Can I use the program VROOT to root my xperia ZR? Or just use above method?

Currently running on stock 4.3 formware 10.4.1.B.0.101 with locked bootloader.

Last time I managed to root my ZR using doomlord method. But when update thru OTA failed to update. So I update thu pcc which will lost your root. But some people manage to update thru OTA with root. Worth to try.

Hi . I would like to ask . What can i do after i root the phone ? I am totally new in rooting and trying to fit into the rooting arena .
*
One example.. If you are suffering from low memory storage the rooting can solve the problem by transfer all the data to sd card. By default all the data will store in internal storage. Mainly the game use huge of data to store.

Please do some research first before you do anything to your xperia at least you know what you are doing. Rooting will void the warranty. Some user experience random booting after rooting. So make a Google first.

Android kitkat make my XZR laggy.. Very sad recent update. Battery usage not as good as 4.3 JB. Some more no option to select video player during watching video on Facebook. Default video player auto play. Mine got mx player but no option to select the player to play. Anyone facing this problem?.

After hard reset my zr more steady. So far no lagging issue. Only the battery usage still no improvement. The "android system" use more battery. Last JB 4.3 only use 6% after update to kitkat use 16~20%. Is it normal for XZR on kitkat?

updating to KK 4.4.4 ( 10.5.1.A.0.283 ) via pc companion will remove root.

flashing ftf via flashtool will remove root too. there's no way to root this new firmware. towelroot will not work as Sony have patch the exploits with this new kernel.

so the only way to have root access and recovery is to flash pre-rooted firmware....via recovery.

i have prepare the pre-rooted Stock 10.5.1.A.0.283 for those interested. this is bases on Taiwan TW stock firmware.

Pre-rooted Stock 10.5.1.A.0.283 download link:

from experience, updating via OTA should be root friendly...

could you update this new 4.4.4 thru OTA? i'm not sure you're able to do it via OTA since this is not a minor update, the kernel was updated too...i couldn't wait for the OTA update, the moment the TW 4.4.4 rom is out, i already make a pre-rooted version and flashed it !  rclxm9.gif

for me i always always prefer a clean update ( wipe off everything and flash new firmware )

since you're on 4.4.2 rooted now, you can always do current rom backup via recovery. if anything went wrong somehow, you're just a few click away to restore everything back....

Been trying to update thru OTA since last night but failed. I thought maybe it was the data connection. Trying on wifi at the office also failed. Gonna try with PC later.

Yea same here. Cannot install update. Can download but installation failed. Got error message. Maybe my phone is rooted that why i cannot update thru OTA. Keep on trying today.
