SOTD - DHI (2011)
http://parfumfetiche.com/2013/08/08/dhi/

This one needs no introduction. It probably is the most hyped up fragrance in the designer game. Therefore, I had to try it to see what the hypes is all about. Walked into a Dior counter at my local department store last year, sprayed it on one of my wrists and fell in love with it. However, I was on a fence of getting a full bottle as it was too feminine for my taste at that time. Like Dior Homme, although marketed for men this could easily be unisex. Eventually I bought a 100ml bottle on the same month from Dior counter and paid retail price of MYR305 for it. I think it’s well worth it for the quality juice I’m getting. Later I found a tester bottle online this year at a much cheaper price and grabbed it as backup bottle. Both my regular and tester bottles are of the current formulation. Never tried the vintage/original formulated one. Some say it’s better, some say it’s the same but I wouldn’t care much. Just enjoy the current one, which is readily available.

Compared to Dior Homme, the iris note is toned down in this one and more well-balanced I feel. I get another predominant note I’m not familiar with. I guess it’s the ambrette. I also get a pear note in the background, which adds fruitiness to it. The scent basically stays the same from opening to dry down. Moderate projection and good longevity on my skin. Overall feel I get from this is floral and powdery. The scent gets 5 out of 5 from me. I love it!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Muslim friends out there Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

SOTD - PAPH
http://parfumfetiche.com/2013/08/09/paph/

I first sniffed it at airport duty free two years ago and was put off by it. First thing came to my mind was laundry detergent. This is quite popular among YouTube fragrance community so I had to give it a second chance to see if it’ll grow on me. Re-visited it again a year later by sampling from a 9ml mini I bought and fell in love with it. This is when I realized I’m a fan of oriental. Although new to the designer game, Prada marketed their fragrances to be high-end designer like Guerlain, Christian Dior and Channel. It’s also one of my favorite designer houses. Another favorite of mine from this house is Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense (PAPHI). Although marketed for men, this could be unisex but leaning towards masculine side. Retail goes for MYR325 for a 100ml bottle but I got mine online last year for MYR215. Bottle looks classy, which correctly reflects the juice inside.

The tester and mini I tried were of vintage/original formulation with smaller PRADA on bottle and no word Amber on box. I understand that it was named just Prada Pour Homme previously. Current formulated one has bigger PRADA on bottle with the word Amber on box. My first bottle is of current formulation with moderate projection and longevity. Eventually I found and bought a vintage/original formulated one with moderate projection still but good longevity when i was in Singapore the same year. Later I found out that Prada started making fragrances with a company called Puig of Spain in 2003 (by joint-venture) and later Prada sold all of its shares (fragrances only) to them on February 23, 2011. Probably that explains the new packaging and perhaps reformulation (to save cost).

Although named Prada Amber, there’s no amber in it. Opening is sharp. It’s complex with a lot of notes but very well-blended I hardly able to pinpoint each of them. It does smell like classic hotel soap I used before when I was little. Overall feel I get from this is soapy, powdery and elegant. The vintage/original formulated one has moderate projection and good longevity on my skin. The scent gets 5 out of 5 from me. It’s unique and of niche quality. I love it!

Went over to Gardens last week and saw them selling this line and wanted to try it out but couldnt find any promoters near the counter. Thinking of trying out one of their cologne soon. Is it comparable to aqua di gio or armani code in terms of longevity and silage ?

SOTD - PAPHI
http://parfumfetiche.com/2013/08/10/paphi/

As a big fan of the original Prada Amber Pour Homme (PAPH), I had been wanting to try this flanker out since last year. Searched high and low for it but with no success. It was only available in store early this year. I was really overjoyed when I saw a beautiful tester bottle at Prada counter in my local department store. Immediately I sprayed it on one of my wrists with prior knowledge from many reviews I read before. However, I was stunned and put off by it. It didn’t smell like what I had in mind and has nothing to do with PAPH. First thing came to my mind was an old lady’s perfume. Eventually I tried it for a few more times on different occasions and it slowly grew on me. From my initial dislike to truly madly deeply in love with it now.

It gets compared to Tom Ford Noir (TFN) a lot and I do have to agree with it. It does smell very similar but TFN is louder and lasts longer than PAPHI. Retail for PAPHI is MYR358 for a 100ml bottle. My local department store didn’t have smaller 50ml bottle available at that time so I got my 50ml bottle Mar this year from StrawberryNet.com for MYR260.50. Not the cheapest deal I know but I just got to have it. Now you can find it cheaper online for MYR250 for a 100ml bottle and MYR210 for a 50ml bottle.

Upon spraying, I get bergamot right off the bat but then quickly fades away and gives way to resinous myrrh and patchouli. The myrrh in this one doesn’t smell like the one in Dior Eau Savauge Parfum and Dior Fahrenheit Absolute. My guess is this is a sweet myrrh? This one’s not an amber based fragrance despite what the name implies. I only get soft amber in the dry down. Not that intense either. This one sits closer to my skin with moderate projection but good longevity. Overall feel I get from this is resinous. It’s the resinous accord I really dig. This is when I realized I’m a big fan of resinous scent. Probably not that unique but it’s definitely niche quality in my book. The scent gets 5 out of 5 from me. I adore it!

SOTD - LIDGE
http://parfumfetiche.com/2013/08/11/lidge/

This one’s probably one of the most hyped up fragrances in the designer game and is head to head with Dior Homme Intense (DHI). This is a flanker and more intense version of the original L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme (LIDG). They both smell similar with LIDG being more citrusy. Tried LIDGE for the first time at Gatwick airport duty free in May this year and like it. I made the purchase immediately. It was GBP43 for a 75ml bottle and it only comes in one size. This is currently one of my go-to scents for night/cool weather together with Chanel Bleu de Chanel (BdC) for day/warm weather.

I recently sampled ScentStory 24 Go Dark and it does smell very similar to this one with the patchouli and cacao. Upon spraying LIDGE, I get citruses and cacao with a hint of star anise mixed with elemi right off the bat. As it dries down, patchouli starts to dominate together with cacao. Moderate projection and good longevity on my skin. Probably not that unique but it’s a solid fragrance nonetheless. Overall feel I get from this is gourmand-ish but not straight-up gourmand like Thierry Mugler A*Men. The scent gets 4 out of 5 from me. I like it!

Luna Rossa Extreme Prada

Anyone seen it yet? Just released this year. I hope this flanker will be better than original. Perfumer is Daniela Andrier. Notes are bergamot, black pepper, labdanum, juniper berries, lavender, amber and vanilla. Looking at the notes it seems like it's amber+vanilla combo done many times before like many others.

Rejected perfumes are basically fakes. Get cheaper testers for own use instead.
