Hi nicety,

Is there a manual on how to operate himedia launcher? I ran into several problem and unable to figure it out. I'm trying to connect to my PC shared folders using the File Manager. Two problems

1. I can see the shared folder and connect to it but it did not ask for username and password as my shared folder is protected. How can I make it ask for user and password?

2. I add the folder as shortcut. How do I remove the shorcut?

What is the common method other users are using to connect and play media files from pc/server on himedia?

Thanks.

1). When you see the shared folder and click the folder, can you access to the content? or open the file from the shared folder?

2). How do you add the short cut? Do you mean in File Manager ? If yes, just click the Menu button from Himedia Remote Control then you see the button "Operation". The operation menu allow you to create or delete files.

I select File Manager -> select Globe (LAN). It list all my shares from PC. I select one of the share (let say Media1). It ask if I want to put in shortcut. I select yes. It put in shortcut but did not list files. it should not list any files as my Media1 is password protected but it never ask for password unlike the example from video/youtube.

Thanks.

I hv preconfigured xBMC for you, you do not need to perform any setup.

There is a bug in xBMC R12, when you start xBMC, please unplug any USB dongle such as wireless mouse or Air Mouse. After xBMC fully loaded then you can plug back the USB.

OK got it. I have k400r dongle plugged in. It is working now. It is good if have a FAQ in the first page so that all the learning can be compiled there. Thanks.

When you click the live TV menu, and press the right cursor to move to the right. You should see the new channels list at the right end of your menu.

Hi nicety. Thanks. Initially I'am not able to figure out how to get to the live tv menu, after some trying, manage to figure out. Just press any arrow button and press OK will call up the menu.

I have another question. Is there a way to view or edit the live tv list that built into the device? I might like a built-in channel and would like to compile them into my own diy tv list. Thanks.

Hi nicety. I found that I'am unable to resume movie playback when using ES File. When I click on resume play, it just start from beginning again. If I use cursor to click on sliding bar to the time that I want, it just keep continue playing from beginning. If I use remote control right arrow button to move the sliding bar, it will play to the time location that I want but the playback is so lag that it is not watchable. Have any solution to this? Thanks.

ES File Explorer is file manager is does not control the movie auto resume. When you file time open the movie file in ES File Explore, it will prompt you list of the video player apps in your device. The video player will determine whether your movies to be auto resumed. If you use Himedia Native video player, it will resume automatically. If you MX Player, just goto setting -> Resume to enable or disable auto resume. If you other player, there must be setting to enable the auto resume. Please let me know your finding.

Hi nicety. I'm not sure if I set MX Player as default video player or not but I think it is MX player open by default when play video in ES File Explorer. When pause movie, ads will show up at top. I've set MX Player to either auto Resume or ask when start and the movie will not resume in either case. On occasion when I did manage to move the time slider using right arrow button on remote, playback will be lag/slowmo and auto resume or ask whether to resume will work but in lag mode. Even select start over when ask will start over in lag mode. I tried to cancel default on MX Player but it shows default not set. Hope you have some idea on how to make it work properly. Thanks.

I would advise to switch to Himedia Native Media Player which will always prompt for resume, there are two way to do this :

1). The most easier way is open the movies file from Himedia File Manager, it will auto open Himedia Video Player to play.

2). Reset the default player in ES Explorer, follow the below :
a). Start your Explorer
b). Click the movies and hold it until the sub menu appear, click "More"
c). Select Open As
d). ES Explorer will prompt the list of player again
e). Tick the select as default
f). Select Himedia Video Player (the second one)
*
Himedia native media player is called Video Player, right? I tried this and same thing happened. It shows the options to start over and resume but resume still does not work. It will always start over just like using MX Player.

Since all the players having has the symptom, could it be the media file ? Please test different media file on different harddisk/pendrive.

It is not the media file. Check with another movie and same problem. I just found that it will work with movie on local usb drive. It did not work with movie on the LAN but that is how I access all my movies, over the network. It even work with my android smartphone using ES File Explorer and MX Player. Any other idea how to resolve?

I got you now, you play from shared folder not local file. I'm so sorry did not get your question correctly. Will come back to you if found the solution.

Btw, your network shared folder is via NAS, samba, nfs or windows file sharing?
*
They are in shared folder on my PC running Win7, so I guess it would be Windows file sharing then.

Just tested using the File Manager(native Himedia file explorer), the movies can be resumed without problem.

Pls test with file manager( not ES ) and let me know. If still the same, you may double check your network.
*
How do I connect to network using native file manager? Previously I asked you before but you ask me to use ES file explorer instead.

Also another problem. I plug-in a HDD but I don't see it either in setting or ES file explorer or file manager. How to enable HDD. Thanks.

Just click the Globe icon at the top right corner, it will prompt you to enter IP address of your PC, login account and password. Then you can access to your windows share folder.

If you are using new HDD, first plug into your PC to initialize the disk and format it as NTFS. If the HDD is in good condition, it should be auto detect by the Q10, no setting required.

OK. I tried using ES file explorer on avi and mp4 files and they can resume without problem. It did not work with all mkv files that I've tried. My network should not be a problem since I've been using it on ACRyan POHD for the last 4 years without issues and also resume work on my Android 4.2.1 smartphone as well. I'll try with himedia file manager later.

Hi nicety. I tried with Himedia File manager and it can resume mkv without any problem. The only problem is it can't connect to my shared drives with password protection. I need the password protection for parental control. I tried using ASTRO file manager but it is not good as it will try to download the file first before play. I'll probably need to find another file manager that can connect to password protected shared folders and can also resume mkv file. Any recommendation? If himedia can add password protection capability into their file manager would be perfect. Thanks.

QUOTE(nicety @ Nov 24 2013, 12:32 AM)
When I try the Himedia File Manager, it prompt me for login account and password. Actually password protection is control at the shared folder level where you can specific public share or private share in your PC, public share do not need password. The File Manager or ES Explorer do not control whether the shared folder is password protected, when access to public folder it skip the password prompt and when access to password protected folder it prompt for login and password.
*
That is correct but why Himedia file manager did not prompt me. I'll go thru your procedure again and see if it prompt.

EDIT: OK. When I use Himedia File Manager and click on the globe, it shows All Network. I click on All Networks and it shows Localhost and myserver. When I click on myserver, it shows list of all my shared folders. When I click on any of the shared folders, the screen goes blank and later it exit into Himedia launcher. It never ask for username and password.

If any of the shared folders is set to everyone, then it will list all the files in the shared folder and everything works fine. Look like I'll have to make shared folders public and continue to use my POHD for those with password protection. With this issue I need to be careful with future android media player purchases to ensure it can work in my use condition.

Thanks nicety for all the help and being patience with me.

Good news for Q10 1st generation buyers:
Himedia do not forget you, although the Q10 1st generation already end of sale but Himedia still continue release the new firmware version 1.1.5. Please download from my skydrive since Himedia website download speed is too slow. This is the beauty of buying Himedia product where you get continue firmware support as I shared in the selection criteria for Android TV Box. Please use the force upgrade method as per below steps :

1. First download the latest firmware.
2. Copy the file into USB disk , ROOT directly. ( don’t change the filename)
3. Remove all other USB and HDD device from Q device, keep only the USB disk with upgrade file.
4. Press and hold the button in the RESTORE hole, then power on your Q10 ( release the RESTORE button after 5 sec)
5. The box will enter into Recovery mode, then start to upgrade. You should see the greenrobot and the upgrade progress bar.
6. Wait for the upgrade finished and the box will reboot.

Hi nicety. Did they fix the bug on needing to remove USB dongle before running XBMC? Haven't upgrade yet but will probably do it this weekend. Thanks.
