hello, joining in smile.gif

was planning to buy the 5460 @ RM2199 but now looking at the 5470 Touch @ RM2249.

reading up the thread, looks like the 5470 could be a better buy due to better wifi and definitely touch screen capability. afterall just RM50 bucks difference. never had a touch screen laptop before (i currently own an inspiron 14R which is dying on me)... any feedback on having a touch screen? don't think the shops are carrying any demo units yet?

The 5460 sept offer looks okay too, with free optical drive (ends 26 Sept). So I guess i have to make up my mind quick! smile.gif does the SSD really make a difference? am only using the laptop to do casual surfing and play videos.

bear in mind:
1. 5470 core i5 doesn't come with touchscreen
2. 5470 core i3 is the only option for touchscreen
3. SSD is more than twice faster compared to HD.

you're right. was reviewing the specs too fast online. touchscreen is the one with i3 @ RM2149.

point 3 is challenging. so its back to touch screen vs faster processing.. rclxub.gif
but then again, its 4th generation intel, compared to 3rd gen for the 5460. pening-nya..

Guys, i'm still hovering around for a laptop. previously i was looking at vostro 4560, then 4570.

Then recently found samsung ativ book 9 lite @ RM1999. altho it comes with amd quad processor, it also includes 128 ssd. batt life is also supposedly better at 4-4.5 hours. weight 1.44kg. startup 8 sec, snooze wakeup 2 sec.

Book 9 Lite NP905S3G-K01MY, AMD A6-1450 + AMD HD8250 + 128GB SSD@RM1999[1.58kg], 4GB, W8

Yes, very appealing in look and in spec  thumbup.gif

Buyers need to know the spin:
1. don't get BS by the quad core. That A6 can barely hang with i3 tongue.gif (performance per core by AMD is low)
2. Any laptop that spec with SSD (even if we upgrade SSD aftermarket) can hit those start-up / wake-up time easily.

This machine is very appealing to those who use laptop for web surfing, music, video, MS Office, light photoshop  thumbup.gif

means can rival 5470/5460 right? price is even cheaper.

As I mentioned, be aware what the Book 9 is good for and what it is not capable of, and buyers should be very happy with the Book 9.
the 5470 with i3/i5 + GT740M will have more raw processing power.
The Book 9 come with SSD, very responsive right off the block (but 5470, once user upgrade HDD to SSD, could match it), users generally like that very much.
And I always like the matte screen in Samsung models  thumbup.gif

I'm a bit concern about the battery running time of the Book 9 since it is spec with a 2 cell (30 Wh) battery, (5470 is spec with 3 cell 48 Wh)  hmm.gif

got it. previously was confused as i couldn't differentiate between sarcasm and fact from your message haha. batt power samsung claims 8 hours. but reviews tip it at 4 - 4.5 hours. still ok lah smile.gif

Huh? No sarcasm lah smile.gif That Book 9 look really nice and work really well on task that is not very CPU or GPU demanding.
Too bad about the battery running time if only 4 - 4.5 hours  hmm.gif If Samsung fit it with a slightly (3 cell vs 2 cells) larger battery (will not increase weight by 100g), it could easily run 6 - 7 hours. Miss opportunity to really wallop the market.
Generally, I really hope brands start to roll out more < RM2k models with a 128G SSD as standard, rather than a slow 1TB  5400 rpm HDD.
*
haha yes, mistaken smile.gif they have the book 9 plus, but double the price. anyway it looks like its a trend. brands rolling out new ultrabooks. guess ill just wait around for more options. the hp envy spectre has a 128gb ssd... retailing around 2899. no longer selling on hp online store though.

i went to feel test the samsung activ 9 lite demo unit yesterday at the shop. i really like the touch screen but its much heavier than the non-touch version. i think at rm1999 the non touch is much cheaper than the 5460/5470. it felt responsive with the 128gb ssd and the screen colour quite nice too.
