Yeah they offered me a refund, unit replacement or lcd replacement. I had no other option than the lcd replacement since I will be out of Malaysia after three weeks and unit replacement would take 20days++.

This is really frustrating. The whole new laptop feeling has been ruined. Probably got a really bad unit. sad.gif

wow.thats bad.im thinking either to get this vostro 5470 or the inspiron 7000.

Thanks nexus2238! I hope it is not a major issue.
@azerak, yes the one i bought is not a touchscreen. Both touchscreen/non-touchscreen are available. I think windows 7 on 5470 is not available as default as far as i know (correct me if i am wrong).
*
thanks for the answer.how do we know that our choice is not touchscreen?

5460 / 5470 users, so far my unit is not facing a single problem at all.  When it arrived FRESH & VIRGIN from Dell, I just ran the windows update and setup all except languages. I think the best way to have a better system is to share what minor-major software that we BOUGHT / DOWNLOADED & INSTALLED, not the one already inside the system such as McAfee. Here's mine:-

1. Microsoft Office 2010
2. TuneUp Utilities 2014
3. Dell System Detect
4. Dell Backup & Recovery
5. Ccleaner
6. inSSIDer 3
7. BlackBerry Link / Desktop Manager / DDPB / BBSAK / Sachesi
8. WD Security, SmartWare & Quickview
9. Bit Torent (Run actively 24/7)
10. Belarc Advisor
11. Mozilla Firefox (Customized about:config)
12. Adobe Illustrator CS5.1
13. Dell Quickset
14. K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
15. Apple Bonjour & iTunes
16. Adobe Flash Player / Shockwave / Air
17. Ricoh Aficio MP C2500 drivers
18. Intel Control Center
19. Java for Windows 8.1
20. Opera Browser (customized setting for download purpose)

That's all wink.gif As for start up, only few enabled to maintain the speed of boot up. TBH, I'm an "UPDATE FREAK" woman because I will always spend 10 minutes of my life everyday to manually check if there's any update for my system or software.

are you working with dell?

you yourself said inspiron better -.-! then why not go for it?
*
because of the weight.i went to the PC Expo at mid today.tested both.inspiron is definitely much heavier than vostro. i might choose the feather-light vostro than the looks of inspiron so it seems. sweat.gif

inspiron is 2 kg while vostro is only 1.6 kg.
but inspiron is thinner compare to vostro.

yeah me too is deciding between the two.
*
when i compared it while handling them, the thickness is not that much difference but the weight is definitely different.

vostro 5470 warranty extension:

1 Year Limited Hardware warranty      : MYR 425.00
2 Year Limited Hardware warranty      : MYR 656.00
3 Year Limited Hardware warranty      : MYR 742.50

*discounted warranty price

@@ll better save that money to buy a new one..LOL
*
where did u get the price?i think if thats the case, better buy the laptop from dell website and get the warranty together.with that price rm700, you can get both the 3 year limited warranty AND 3 year accidental warranty.

+rm159 for 2 years warranty
+rm249 for 3 years warranty

if you buy the laptop with standard 1 year warranty, then later want to extend warranty, obviously it is going to be a lot more expensive.
*
yes, i think he already bought the laptop with 1 year warranty and later want to add more.thats why it is always better to buy it at first.my current dell laptop is covered with accidental warranty, i accidentally dropped it and it was repaired the next day.total peace of mind thumbup.gif

Nice, I'm now more incline towards dell inspiron 14 7000 series.
Yeah and will cost a lot more but look sturdy.
*
yeah.i was like you too at first.but considering i already have a laptop for gaming and editing purposes that is too heavy for me to lug around, i need to have a laptop that is good enough for work and light.what wins me over is vostro is around 1.5kg and inspiron is around 2kg++, though when i went to test both at dell pc expo booth, the inspiron felt like it is twice the weight of vostro.so vostro it is! rclxm9.gif

Any of you guys mate a 5470 with ssd yet?

i bought 5470 (rm2149) laptop.. then bought myself Crucial m500 ssd, but the ssd wont work. I called up dell, they say 5470 got 2 kind.. 1 is 5470 notebook, and 1 is 5470 ultrabook.. somehow the rm2149 is notebook, thus does not support SSD. its kinda stupid excuse, but heck. anyone manage to get it anything work?

or should i just get mSata?
*
so which one is the 5470 ultrabook?
