QUOTE(Newbieeeeee @ May 18 2013, 09:39 PM) Hey 5460 owners. Congrats on getting yourselves a extremely value for money unit! I'd like to ask what you guys think about the trackpad. I tried it in lowyat yesterday. Doesn't seem to be very accurate and sensitive. Adjustable? Thanks. Trackpad and the button-clicks feel cheap, but its large enough for proper use Can't really expect too much from a budget notebook, its above average already~ Keyboard looks great, though the key travel has been compromised a bit |

QUOTE(Jun X18 @ May 21 2013, 10:24 AM) Hi guys, I've been looking around for laptop reviews in this forum and i chanced upon this thread. If you don't game, then don't go for the one with the GPU I'm currently looking into these two models, the RM1.55k and the RM1.89k. The differences I noticed the processor i3 vs i5 and the graphics card, one being integrated and the other a dedicated nvidia chip. I know that the model with the dedicated graphics is more worth it coupled with an i5 processor. This is what I'll be doing with the laptop, I am a heavy Microsoft Office user, powerpoint & excel and watch alot of YouTube during leisure time. Will the dedicated graphics consume alot of battery power even when i'm just working on word and excel? Please advise me guys, on which model to pick. The slimness and also the small capacity battery of the Vostro 5460 make it not really suitable for the powerful mobile i5 and the external GPU imho.. it will get too hot |

QUOTE(suadrif @ May 22 2013, 09:56 PM) Wow yeah, pretty much 2 hours and less...Thanks for the feedback So i think its safe to assume it can sustain about 2 hours if surfing and do a heavy task rite? Even the ULV version is having problems keeping up in terms of battery life@ around 3 hours or so with WiFi + songs + web surfing The battery capacity is pretty small... still, can't really expect too much since the Vostro is so slim and light |

Update: After a few days playing around with my friends Vostro 5460, I've noticed that apart from the cheap feel of the touchpad. The finishing of the edge of the palm rest connecting to the bottom of the notebook (right below the touchpad) is pretty sharp.. making it somewhat uncomfortable (and even painful) after prolong usage
Mouse recommended |

QUOTE(hadicasablanca @ Jul 1 2013, 11:58 AM) Sorry, I have a few questions regarding the Vostro 5460. 1. Yeah, its pretty bad, often "jumping" from here to there. But it can be easily fixed by using a mouse. Most people don't use touchpad anyway 1) Is the trackpad really that bad (that you're annoyed with it?) 2) Does it heat up badly after some time using it? 3) Are there any other issues that I should know? Thank you in advance. 2. Depends on what processor you are getting. A normal (mobile) i3 and also i5 will definitely heat up when on load, especially when its on such a slim notebook 3. Short battery life (3-cell battery to save weight, so its quite understandable) and also the poor built in front of the touchpad (will hurt hands via friction when used to much) |

QUOTE(rlky @ Jul 4 2013, 10:40 PM) I'm considering this laptop mainly because of the reasonable screen size and the weight. I'm using this laptop for simple applications like Words, Excel, Chrome - you can say it is for office work. But since the price between the lowest spec and the highest spec don't differ much so its not a problem to choose either. A few thing's that I'm concerned is: - The additional GPU will definitely make the notebook hotter, especially when in use. But good thing is that Nvidia Optimus is available Will the Nvidia GPU make the laptop hotter? Will the ULV processor produce less heat than the i3? Will the higher spec be a lot heavier than the lowest spec? Another reason why I consider the lowest spec is i get to install Windows 7. However I have experienced with an old Dell laptop where native installed Windows OS boots faster compared to when I installed an OEM Windows OS. I guess the preinstalled one is optimized for the laptop. Is it the same still now? Also will drivers be easily available for Windows 7? - Definitely, but you get less the performance. It all boils down to whether you need that extra "juice" or not. Most people don't - Weight differences will be negligible, not for something already that light - Better stick to W8. Or make sure you check Dell's website and see whether complete W7 drivers are available or not. If you want Windows to boot fast, get an SSD, or at least a hybrid HDD |

QUOTE(suadrif @ Jul 6 2013, 02:03 PM) Yeah its true Managed to play around with my supervisor's XPS13... I have to say it is worth every single cent Same goes for me For it to be call "portable", i prefer 1.5kg max and no more than 1inch Even dell xps 14z with 21mm is considered bulky for me Thats why i prefer xps13 or vostro 5460 Xps13 is only 1.3kg but the price is "wow" -.-" The craftsmanship and the attention to detail is crazy XD Even the service tag and Windows serial numbers beneath the notebook are kept under a flippable metal plate |

QUOTE(PsVitaForLife @ Jul 11 2013, 12:02 AM) Wondering should i get this model with the Core I5 3230M with Ubuntu Dos at RM1720 + rm300 for 128Gb SSD + Rm50 windows 8 Keys Apart from the lack of warranty extension, on-site warranty and weight, Samsung wins hands down OR Go for samsung ativBook 7 with Full HD + 128gb SSD + 1.5Kg + 6-7 hours battery life ( Due to ULV core i5 ) at rm2860. I wouldn't recommend going for the normal i5 processor in such a slim notebook though |

QUOTE(shawnme @ Sep 25 2013, 12:10 PM) Okay..now I have a problem...it seems like dell do not provide the OS cd for the laptop... Just stick to factory restore? By doing that you will get everything as it is when u first get the notebook. You will still have all your windows and drivers apart from stuffs you installed yourself into the notebook (so do backup your stuffs 1. So if I would want to reformat my laptop..the only way is through BIOS factory image reset? 2. So if I format my computer using lets say..win xp / win 7...meaning my ori windows 8 that came with it is lost forever? 3. As what dell chat told me..I'm not able to simply just download the same edition of windows and use the windows key that came with my original So what options do I have...if I want a clean install...and let's say adjust my HDD partitions to my preference? Unlike earlier generations of Windows, W7 and W8 allow very easy partitioning of HDD right? |
