Hi, i just wanted to ask, i have a Dell Vostro 5470 running windows 8. And i've had it for a few months now. I've also been using the DigitalPersona Fingerprint scanner for unlocking my com and Etc.

However, just yesterday, i realized that i couldn't use it. And it said that "Fingerprint Scanner not detected".

I am not sure what i pressed last night, it might have been a shortcut key as i was doing my work late at night and i was sleepy.

And suggestions?
Thanks in advance. smile.gif

Lucky you. I haven't been able to get my finger scanner working. I have installed the scanner driver from Dell but didnt know where to download the reader software. Hope other owners can shed some light on this?

Hi yeah of course it's from Dell. Just keep the receipt and do buy preferably from an authorized dealer.

Hi yeah, to answer, there is a touch screen variant but i haven't seen it in stores. If i am not mistaken, it is only found on the Dell website meaning you've gotta buy it online if you want the touch screen variant.

I bought mine, an i5 4th gen, no touch screen for around Rm2100. However that can be negotiated wherever you go.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if anything.

Thanks

Hi, I'm considering to buy Vostro 5470 with i5 touchscreen + 32gb mSATA SSD. I have a few questions, by exchanging the mSATA SSD to a higher capacity, does it affect the warranty status? and, were you successful in installing OS in the mSATA SSD through this steps? ps, I've just chat with the sales representative online and they told me d mSATA SSD was fixed on the motherboard, is it possible to upgrade it myself?

Thanks for the software, Bro. I configured the PERSONA software to read my print but how do you get Win 8 to boot up with MS account with it?

Can provide step by step guide?

Follow up from my report on the incompatible kingfast msata (sata 2) that caused the long boot up time. Bought another msata brand (mydigitalssd which is sata 3 & this time the Vostro 5470 behaved like its supposed to be - fast boot up!

As suggested by others here, I installed the entire Win8 on the new 128GB msata. Then use easybcd to point towards the freshly installed OS on msata. Formatted the hdd partition containing the old Win8 files & I'm happy with this setup.

For those interested in the msata:

Great news!!!

I finally managed to boot to the USB cd-rom and successfully installed win7 pro onto the SSD after trying on different bios setting and also different USB ports to connect the USB cd-rom.

Below is the procedure for your reference:

1. connect your usb drive/cd-rom to the usb port next to hdmi port (make you have bootable usb/cd-rom with windows installation file)
2. power up and press F2 to enter BIOS setting
3. clear all the password for admin and system
4. load default setup
5. press F10 to save and exit bios
6. you should boot into the installation process after restart (remember to set the boot sequence in bios: usb storage -> cd-rom -> hdd)

The system is extremely fast (take about 10s to reach windows welcome screen) and very responsive in windows.

Good luck!
