Just got my 10 Mbps ABNxcess Internet installed today at JB. So far, the speed is excellent for me. However, the TV can only be activated tomorrow as told. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2974703381The RM500 rebate will be spread over 10 months. To be eligible, you must present your existing broadband bill (from other Telcos) for verification. That means the first 10 months' payment will be RM55 per month and the rest will be RM105 (including 6% tax). Also, the contract period is 2 years and premature termination will incur a RM500 penalty. Free installation during this promotion period, but don't know will last for how long. Will try out for a week before deciding to terminate my 4 Mbps Streamyx. This post has been edited by winners8: Sep 18 2013, 08:36 PM

QUOTE(nicky0322 @ Sep 18 2013, 09:15 PM) 10Mbps down 1Mbps up? >_>" Did you try to run speedtest on local malaysia servers? Or the results are the same? Tried this morning at "www.speedtest.my", the Download is 9.587 Mbps and Upload is 0.966 Mbps. Sorry no screen shot from "www.speedtest.my". So, basically, the speed is almost the same, whether local or international.

QUOTE(jh95 @ Sep 18 2013, 10:00 PM) speed is not bad..but why got tax...what is the isp?? They told me it's the standard 6% Malaysian government tax. I'd also remember paying this tax for other services as well previously, although there are some establishments which don't impose this tax at the moment. ISP is ABNxcess. QUOTE(yed @ Sep 19 2013, 08:19 PM) Upload only 1Mbps? Not 10? This is standard from all ISP, unless yours is a business subscription. Otherwise, the upload speed is usually 1/10 of the download speed. This is to save their bandwidth.

1 thing I'd realized is that they use their own modified (and much restricted) version of the firmware on their MOTOROLA cable modem so that you cannot make any changes (like the DNS and port settings), except only the WiFi encryption type and admin password.

QUOTE(Ahn3hn3h @ Sep 21 2013, 06:34 PM) Malaysians will only know once their subscribers grow in number and their network expands. Now they're just leasing lines from TM wholesale and reselling them. We'll have to wait and see if their cable DOCSIS network will be able to handle large number of users in future. That's true. However, I believe they will maintain their standard because they would have spent a lot on their infrastructure since they are laying their own coaxial cables throughout the country. The only fear is will they increase their charges exorbitantly in future? This post has been edited by winners8: Sep 21 2013, 09:51 PM

QUOTE(mun88 @ Sep 24 2013, 04:40 PM) can you post a photo to let us see how ABN technical connect cable from TNB cable to your house ?? I'm not allowed to include attachment in my posts due to my low post count. Anyway, they run their own main coaxial cable on those lamp posts along the stretch of road outside my house. Thereafter, they installed a splitter from the main coaxial cable just outside my house and from the splitter, they then tapped a new coaxial cable into my house via my attic below the roof tiles. Thereafter, it's onward into my house via a small opening at the false ceiling, down the staircase wall and into my living room.

In the long term, Internet charges will be lowered due to competition, which is the trend in all countries. The infrastructures are already there and had been paid. So, it will be a waste if they don't generate more income for the telcos by luring more customers with ever attractive pricings.
Fibre and coaxial are the most ideal technologies for end-users at the moment, though Fibre has an added advantage for future expansion capability. Unlike mobile broadband technologies, which are still evolving, there seems to be not much progress for further technological advancements to landed lines beyond Fibre.

QUOTE(zerorating @ Apr 6 2014, 02:10 PM) Can, but your may need to change network range, many wireless AP that was used were using network range 192.168.1.0 and it is used by ABN internal network Just temporarily use a LAN cable to connect to the ABN modem to disable its WiFi function and it will no longer affect your external Wireless Router. I'm doing it this way.

QUOTE(annoymous1234 @ Aug 25 2014, 12:02 AM) Ya loh. Tomorrow after calling abn i need to go buy a usb to ethernet adapter. Can surge protector prevent issue like this from repeating? Some said its cause by the coxial cable. Lightning can fry your modem and your PC if it's connected via LAN, even if both of them are NOT SWITCHED ON. It happened before to my Streamyx D-LINK modem and my Notebook PC. All fried and the Notebook PC can't even start. When I opened it up, the ribbon cable connecting from the LAN card to the motherboard got burn marks on the motherboard side. Eventually, had to buy a new Notebook PC, not to mention a new ADSL modem as well since TM said my modem was already over 1 year so no guarantee. As for ABN, I had PMed you once before to get the technician to install another surge protector before the Internet modem. I had a similar lightning strike before on my ABN Cable TV modem and it fried my HDMI input on my Plasma TV. Their Cable TV modem was also fried because its HDMI output cannot work anymore. So, when they came to replace their Cable TV modem, I insisted for another surge protector for their Internet modem, in addition to the original one just before the splitter. Touch wood, but until now, no more problems with lightning. This post has been edited by winners8: Aug 26 2014, 02:06 PM

QUOTE(Keatsan @ Aug 26 2014, 02:09 PM) Just wondering, the surge protector for their Internet modem is it free provided by them? As for my case, it is free because I told them since their system had already damaged my Plasma TV's HDMI input and I never asked for compensation, so I insisted that they must do something more to prevent a recurrence. Anyway, the group of technicians who served my area are very customer friendly and negotiable. No complaints on their service even until now. The only setback is night time surfing is a bit slow but I believe it's to be expected from this kind of shared CABLE system pipeline when there are many users in your Taman in the evenings. It is different from the TM's ADSL or Fibre system, which are dedicated lines. This post has been edited by winners8: Aug 26 2014, 02:31 PM

Looks like ABN is really gone for good. My ABN (& also my neighbor) here in JB was cut off on 03 Jul from 5pm. Too bad that they had to go bankrupt, otherwise, their plans are very good value for money. Hopefully, another company will come and take over to resume the business.
