One of the NKRAs is Improving Urban Public Transport, and MRT Corp says the KVMRT project is just one of the efforts to revamp the public transport issues plaguing Kuala Lumpur.
“The government recognises the public transport gap was a key part of dissatisfaction among KL residents, and the MRT is part of the effort to close this gap. Now that the elections are over, the focus can be re-honed towards delivery of this key infrastructure that will benefit millions of people in the Greater Klang Valley (GKL) area,” explains Dato’ Azhar.
Dato’ Azhar says that overall, he was happy with the progress of the project, which currently stands at 14%.
“We were at 3% in December 2012, then in March we achieved 7%, and we have doubled that now. This progress is obviously in part due to the cooperation of all thegovernment departments and agencies that work together towards completing this project on time. This new mandate to Barisan Nasional can only augur well for the project. I am pleased to note that currently we are on track, and the Sg Buloh – Kajang (SBK) Line will be operational by the July 2017 deadline,” he adds.
