OK. Played 2 games so far. Played as England and won both times on default semi-pro difficulty (4 difficulty levels - amateur, semi-pro, professional and world class + one more "perfect" difficulty level to unlock).

Beat opponent gets u 250 points, 2-goal winner gets u 500 points, same stiker scoring twice (Owen) gets u 500 points, clean sheet gets 250 points, no yellow cards gets u points, no red cards gets u points, etc etc etc - u get the idea. All these Game Points you rack up can be used in the Store to buy classic kits (e.g. England 1966 kit), different types of Adidas balls (classics like Tango, Fevernova and current ones like F50 x-ite and 2006 Teamgeist Gold Final Ball), unlock classic players (e.g. Beckenbauer, Gasgoine, Cantona, but no PELE!!!), etc.

*Winning Eleven fan-boy mode off*

First impressions of the game. Sorry if I disagree with alkt on some points. The graphics looks good no doubt esp the cutscenes etc. However, the player movements in-game looks very stiff and arcade-like. Nothing compared to the fluidity and realistic player movements found in the latest WE series.

I particularly dislike the ball physics, the ball feels heavy and also sticks to the players feet. There is not much ball free play.

As for the computer's AI, generally ok lah. At semi-pro difficulty, it's very easy to steal opponent's ball. Also, in one of the games, the goalie saved Rooney's shot and lied down on the field motionless while Rooney ran towards the loose ball to tap in an easy sitter.

Finally I must disagree with the IGN review (with due respect to them) which states that it comes close to WE in terms of gameplay. In this respect, EA's FIFA series still has a long way to go before it catches up with the WE series. It's just not as good a football "simulator".

And I just played Winning Eleven 10. Good luck EA trying to catch up. All said and done, I foresee this is still the only footie game that would on played on XB Live going into WC2006, so I'll see u guys on Live. Cheers.

But Fernando has already released the English patch for this - although not 100% translated (menu, team names, stadium names done, player names about 70% done). I've patched it and now on my PS2 hard disk.

Just played my first game on Live. Opponent was from South Korea, playing as Brazil. I played as England and won 1-0.

The game lagged terribly. Also there are no replays on Live (e.g. when a foul is committed, off-side or goal scored) unlike in offline mode. Games look like limited to 4 mins per half, and at end of each game brings you back to main menu and not lobby/room, so could not replay with the same player. Also doesn't look like there's co-op mode on Live, only 1 vs 1. Anyway, that's just first impressions.

@ jaylike7 - there is no spectator mode from what I've seen so far.

Edit - ok played another 2 games on Live. My track record so far, win 2 lost 1. Ranked 40th when I played my first game and won. Now ranked 75th with 2 wins 1 loss. Second game played with someone from Norway and third game with someone from Japan. Both games were lagging badly and made the game very jerky - really really bad and not enjoyable. Also, not many players online. Maybe it's still too early - not many ppl have this game yet. The guy ranked no. 1 only played a total of 17 games.

England has a lot of "star" players - e.g. Rooney, Beckham, Gerrard.

Calvin, care to share your initial impression of the game?

Damn. My game freezes. Now playing World Cup campaign mode, playing as England. First game against Paraguay. At the end of game (on the "Post Game Menu - Statistics" screen) we're suppose to click A button to continue. Mine freezes at this point - have to re-start console. Played this game 4 times and all 4 times stuck at this same point. *&$%@*%

@alkt - can you re-create my scenario and see what happens on your side? i.e. play as England in WC Mode, all on default settings (i.e. 6 mins, normal speed, semi-pro, etc). Your first game should be England vs Paraguay. See what happens at end of game. If yours works, then it's only mine. If yours freezes too, then it's a game bug?

Thanks.

OK. Looks like my problem may not be a faulty disc.

First, I tried tweaking with the settings e.g. change game duration, change difficulty etc, even changed the schedules e.g. instead of first game england vs paraguay as it should i changed it to england vs trinidad as the first game for the group. Still the game freezes on me right after the first game as before.

Tried changing team and played as Brazil instead. Game still freezes after completing my first game, as before.

Finally decided to delete my FIFA WC2006 game saves, award saves, etc from the hard disk. Started the game with a clean slate, with no option files. Went straight into FIFA WC mode and played as England on default settings. This time the game did not freeze after the first game. YAAYYYY!!!!! So it must have been a corrupt save on the hard disk earlier?

All went well until finished England vs Sweden and it hung on me again. *sigh*

Now I'm thinking maybe it's got to do with one of the settings I tweaked with - e.g. camera angle (I play on "Tele"), or maybe cos I disabled EA Trax, or something like that. Will have to continue experimenting tonight.

Thanks EA for the bug.

ok. figured out the bug that's causing my games to hang/freeze. you cannot switch off ALL songs on the EA Trax menu. must have at least one song selected else game freezes when it tries to play songs at the end of the game.

The lagginess in Live mode really takes away a lot of the value of this game. Now I really can't wait for WE / PES series for xbox 360.

PES6 at E3

Somebody has to really, really tell me how to change the difficulty setting of this game. It's just too easy on default.
Before you start a game/tournament, you're presented with a game settings page. Right trigger to select various options as Xeno said and right D-pad to select sub-option. Options include - duration per half (2/4/6/8/10/45 minutes), game speed (normal, slow & fast - defaults on normal), difficulty, etc.

4 levels of difficulty - amateur, semi-pro, professional and world class. Default is semi-pro. There's also another level above world class - it's called "perfect" which can be unlocked.

My ONLY lag-free online game so far has been with Zincast.

I don't think it's just the line. I'm on 8MB dedicated bandwidth package and it still lags when I play with locals on similar bandwidth.

Perhaps the lagness is due to the internet connection during that time period.
