Sorry headphone noob here. Not sure whether it is alright to ask this question here.

I have recently purchased a ATH-M50, and accidentally ran it on full volume with UD110 USB DAC without any amp for about 5 seconds (luckily i wasn't wearing the headphone). Will the headphone be damaged? The headphone sounds fine though after that. So far no distortion. Sorry for the noob question.

Looking for advice on a good quality headphone. Noob in audio equipment.

- Rig - PC using on-board audio
- Format - mp3, movie source, gaming source, CD
- Genre - not important
- Type - Headphone, circumaural, open better?
- Other - no need mic
- Price : RM 300-400

- Queries
----- 5.1 advisable?
----- Any significant difference in sound quality if slightly higher budget e.g. RM400-600?
----- Any use of additional stuff like amps, etc?

Also recommend me a reliable trader (with good pricing!) in garage sales to buy the headphones. Thx.

Can try getting Superlux HD660. Good for fast paced music and games, but u will need an amp.

I see. So many things to consider.  rclxub.gif

Thx for the advice, will do more research.

I guess an amp would definitely make the sound better right? Any recommendation of a good amp to go with a headphone? Budget for amp maybe rm200-300?  hmm.gif
Thx. Will search for more info on the headphone. Any recommendation of an amp to go with that headphone?

Any reliable trader to recommend in garage sales?

Another question, I'm afraid of buying an expensive headphone to see it get spoilt in 2-3 years. Taking unlucky circumstances out of the equation, does headphones generally last long?  hmm.gif

A good starting amp in my opinion, is Objective 2 amp by JDS Labs. It's an affordable and very neutral amp. You can hear your songs in their purest form. Then can move on from there and keep trying different amp until you have found the one best suits you.

Sellers such as liquidgal and jjjkj, whom i have dealt with, are trustworthy. You can always shoot them a PM.

Btw, i am sure other seller such as E1 - AKG is trustworthy as well (although i have not dealt with him yet)

Thx. I think I will go for the M50x together with DAC + amp. Will be contacting recommended traders soon.

Any recommended DAC+amp for this headphone? Will a budget of RM300 be enough?  hmm.gif
I see. I'm in Sarawak so testing is out of the question.  sad.gif

Rm300 can only get you entry level DAC + amp. I would recommend you to save up and get better DAC +amp. No point getting a subpar one and upgrade to a good one later.

If you have RM400 to spare, i would recommend Aune T1 tube DAC+amp. It's good for its money and some people said it's comparable to O2+ODAC or Schiit Magi+Modi.
