CKM500 should be much thicker sound signature, while XP3 provides more impact and speed.

Hey lads im planning to get a new IEM for commuting use, My old Re-0 died on me so i'm keen on replacing them.

I like balance in my IEM's not much of a base head, most of my music are very vocal. 40's ,classic rock and some indie rock.

Can you guys suggest something in a 300 ish range? i wont mind paying a sliver more if its good.
*
If you like great details, have a try on Hippo Pro One

If I'm not mistaken s4 is the old version? After that there is the s4i and s4ii.
The best is if you still go test everything in Jaben smile.gif

Optimize in the sense that only the button controls is optimize for iPhone.

According to their online store, MKii only cost around RM350.

ProOne, UM1 and SE215 are good options, however if you need to wear it while sleeping, SE215 might not do the job nicely.

Which type of music genre you are listening? For pop and r&b with strong bass require, S4 has upper hand, however if you like balance, detail and clean sound, ProOne performs better.

A1000x and A2000x are suitable with very specific group of people, if you tried M50 before, the sound between them are huge different, not an improvement i would say.

Budget: RM400
Your rig: PC
What type of usage: Gaming, Skype/TeamSpeak, Music
File format used in your source: For music, primarily MP3
Genre of music you listen to: A mixture, but mostly Pop
Headphone/ earphone type: Headset
Other requirements: needs to have a mic (preferably that can be moved in place or away when not needed) and I don't want wireless.

More info: I currently have THIS HEADSET. The mic isn't working any more and sound doesn't work on the left side unless I continuously twiddle the volume control. I've been recommended Steelseries Siberia V2 a number of times and one person mentioned Turtle Beach Ear Force Z2. I'm open to other recommendations, though I would also like opinions on the two aforementioned headsets.

Maybe you can try Beyerdynamic MMX1 for alternative.

How about W1000x? I didn't know how to explain it in music jargon, however my taste was to listen to the instrumental song. Most of it is quite a sad song that will trigger manly tears for those who are sensitive to soulful music. Example, Korean drama instrumental ... or Indon love movie instrumental . Didn't like rock or with too much bass.

For your information too, this will be my first headphone. At first I'm thinking to purchase M50, but after too much of good reviews, I'm thinking to get high end closed-back headphone that is much better than M50 itself. This is the reason I ended up with A1000x, A2000x, or W1000x as my budget is limited. Looking for other brand too, such as Sennheiser 650or Moda M-100 .. however, it was open and focus on bass. momentum is more compatible with ipod or iphones.

Thank you for your feedback  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
Depend on situation, if you are a vocal, instrument song lover, never go M50, that are more suitable for fast and impactful music.
My personal recommendation will be Beyerdynamic, Grado and Alessandro series, they have the juice for clinical instrumental, amazing feel for vocal music genre.
W1000x require good amp thou, do you plan to invest on them?

QUOTE(yuka @ May 27 2013, 07:51 PM)
Question, will I risk damaging my SE215 if I wear it to go gym/jogging?
*
Best recommendation? Don't use it for gym/jogging, you tend to spoil them easily, as it is not water resistant, the connection between the earphone and the cable might be the vital point for water.
My suggest will be, use SE215 for serious listening, get a cheap boomy earphone for sport, as you won't be super heart pain when you spoiled the SE215.

Hey dude, I am trying out a Hippo Pro One, the cable is kinda 'fragile' for me, seems you are great in these stuffs, do you know any way to take care of it better than 'handle it carefully'?
Thanks!
*
It is not consider fragile actually, the cable is good quality cable, it has the similar quality with branded such as Westone and Earsonic, the reason why it looks "fragile" because of the flexibility, you can bend anyway you like, and it is multi core tie up, so the tendency of broken them is hard.

Noted for the M50s.

I'm currently eyeing A2000X. There are also T70P and Denon HD-600 with additional topup. Quite hard to choose as there's no clear winner ...  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Grado is more towards open back right?  hmm.gif

Btw, I'll invest on AMP which will be less than RM 300 in the near future
*
If Open back is a gone case, then i believe Grado/Alessandro will be immediate out of the game.
A2000x has a very different taste for vocal, and i believe they made for Jap vocal, it has thinner, refreshing mid frequency, unique as listening experience.
In term of instrumental, i couldn't put much conclusion on that, it is good for instruments that varied from mid treble to high frequency, however for drum kick, it has slightly roll off.

T70 can be a great option to try on.

QUOTE(LightningFist @ Jun 1 2013, 07:41 PM)
I've never owned over-ear headphones, looking for a pair now, for home and personal use.

Most important are

(i) Comfort  (ii) Sound quality  (iii) Noise isolation

while I don't want wireless or active noise cancelling (anything that needs batteries/charging).

Within budget of RM300-RM700

Some that caught my eye are

Audio Technica ATH M50

AKG K 240 MK II

Audio Technica ES700

I have Soundsticks II for normal use, now want some headphones cos the ultimate ear earphones getting uncomfortable

Normally listen to all contemporary genres, top 40, dance, pop, R&B, a bit of acoustic

Going to check some out at the airport (overseas) when I stop by, if can test I would probably just test whatever then buy.

Anything to look out for in case they don't have testing? I figure buying here in Australia is cheaper than in KL
*
Audio Technica M50 and Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, best recommendation on my side.

Hello there . I'm interested in buying a new pair of earphones , I've never bought one before . Most of the earphones I've owned are free ones provided with mp3 players or with phones .

I only listen to music and nothing else with my mp3 . Files are stored in mp3 format . I listen to pop , R&B , indie , techno , trance , and very occasionally , rock .

I'm not sure what is a closed or an open earphone though . I just want a pair of earphones that'll hopefully minimise noise around me .

Price range , very budget-restrained since I'll receive funding from my parents , so around RM 100 - RM 200 would do it . I noticed that there are several Sony ones but not sure if they are good .

Thanks !

For pop, r&b, techno etc, Beyerdynamic XP series has the bass impact and speed for the music genre you mentioned, good for budgeted entry earphone.

ATH M50 vs Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro?

I think I might be able to get the COP for RM600.
Not sure how much for the ATH M50.

Uses: Laptop and Ipod nano 7

Music: most genres including top 40, dance, pop, alternative, sometimes softer folk stuff or Asian music

Also sometimes for TV or Movies, but I have Harman Kardon Sounsticks ii for that, or big music listening. Bass from that thing is not a problem, the headphones are for blocking out sound (annoying neighbours etc) and still being able to listen to any kind of music comfortably and clearly.

Maybe you can get from Jaben? It is faster and less hassle for warranty claim.

- Your rig: PC
- What type of usage: Gaming, but not too hardcore. Music
- File format used in your source: .MP3
- Genre of music you listen to: Mostly prefer acoustic covers, classical (those orchestra epic music), contemporary rock (I really like songs with good lyrics). I stay away from techno and heavy metal music. Just don't fancy them! (nothing personal)

Headphones. I'd prefer if comfort was prioritized. No mic required since I'm planning to invest on an external USB mic.

Budget around Rm150 (stretchable)

Was thinking of some of the Superlux's, though I was told that they're not comfortable. There's the audio technica SJ33, Sony MVR-55 (Someone selling second hand), and... Koss Porta pro?(it looks like it might not be good enough to fit my needs though, but the reviews are penomenal!)
Oh and as a comparison. I've been only exposed to gaming headets (Razer carcharias and Corsair vengeance 1500). I've heard that these gaming headsets are quite a rip off and that I could get better sound quality at lower prices. My current headset (vengeance) doesn't suit me mostly because I have a long neck and the weight really makes my neck sore after a few hours of use!

Thanks!!

Get the Audio Technica TAD300, comfortable and pretty good in sound. You can try out AKG K511 as well, good budgeted headphone.

Hm, have you tried any of those before? Another poster recommended the AKG KC44's.

More options...Harder to make decision haha.

I'd favor AT's though, just because they look good.

Yeap, tried all of them, AKG KC44's? Didnt know any models for that.

bass? is there noise cancelling function on this earphone? where can i bought them?
*
You can purchase the XP series from various places, such as Jaben, Wowloud, Lazada.com.my etc..
For me, earphone with good noise "isolation", is a good noise cancellation earphone, you don't really need the Active noise cancelling technology if you are not a frequent travelling, i mean on plane.

thanks for reply sifu...but m50 sound good on all genre or not?
*
To me, the M50 is good on certain genres, mainly because of the signature it presented, it has less emotion and flat on treble frequency, with enhanced bass.
Fast and main stream music are suitable for M50, if you listed to classical, vocal, instrument etc, the forward, less emotion and flat top might be the disadvantage.

Beyerdynamics XP3/XP2
Hippo Pearl
Soundmagic PL30

What's the difference between these 3? Looking for not so bassy durable earphones for music.
*
Beyerdynamic XP series provide more on bass spectrum, if you like bass signature, XP series is really value for money, while for hippo pearl, it has clarity, balance for the price it charged.
